| I quoted from Starlette’s book because I met her at The Wild Goose Festival a couple weeks ago. I was walking towards the area where she was about to give a talk and she pointed at me and screamed, “I KNOW YOU! I KNOW YOU! I KNOW WHO YOU ARE!” I’m always taken aback when people recognize me from online. She was happy to see me, and I was happy to meet her. But she gave a talk… kind of like slam poetry… and oh my I was blown away. Brought me to tears. Her courage to address race and white supremacy was quite profound. We became friends. And I think she’s someone to look out for. This encounter was another confirmation of my conviction that we are all one, connected at a deep and fundamental level. Instant feeling of unity because the reality of unity is already presumed. I know it’s harder with some than others. But I stand by this idea. Even for those who are bad for me or intend to hurt me… I believe we are one. But from a distance. If only we all wanted the same as Thurman wanted, quoted above... to be me without making it difficult for you to be you. What’s really beautiful for me is that I feel really connected with you here. I really do write to you from my heart, knowing you feel connected to me as I feel connected to you. And I also believe that when this reality of unity is assumed and the feeling of unity is nurtured, it spreads. Like warmth. |
