Switzerland celebrates its first major dam removal with the clearance of a 50-metre barrier at the meeting point of the Sihl and Schanzengraben rivers in the centre of Zurich.

Removing obsolete dams allows migratory fish like salmon, eels and sturgeon to return, bringing life back to rivers. Across the world, the dam removal movement is growing with thousands of obstacles removed from streams and rivers in countries ranging from Australia to America!

Straws are sucking the life from nature

In case you missed it, the spotlight was on plastic pollution on Earth Day, which took place on 22nd April. While throwaway plastic makes our lives more convenient, it comes at a huge expense to people and the environment. Think about it: you might throw plastic bags or straws within a matter of minutes or stirrers after just a few seconds. But all these items stay in the environment for 400 years!
That’s not all. Before they even enter our homes, plastic already contributes to climate change. Globally, the manufacturing of plastic consumes the same amount of fossil fuel as the entire aviation industry :o Discover more about the problems and solutions today.
