Did you know that on an average day, Americans eat nearly 50% more salt than what is recommended for good health? And much of that is found in your food before you pick up the salt shaker! While the American Heart Association generally recommends no more than 2,300 mg (about 1 teaspoon) a day of sodium, they strongly suggest most adults move toward an ideal limit of less than 1,500 mg per day, especially those with high blood pressure. Do you know some easy ways to cut back on sodium? One is to trim back on the “Salty Six,” and another is to use spices and herbs to flavor foods instead of salt. That's a better state of care.
