Nicola Sturgeon demands Brexit delay over Covid-19 spread fears

Scotland's First Minister said it is "imperative" that Prime Minister Boris Johnson secures an extension to the Brexit transition period after the discovery of a faster spread of the coronavirus.

Ms. Sturgeon called it a "profoundly serious situation" and has said leaving the European Union by the end of the year would be "unconscionable".

Inflation-busting rail fare price increase set to be challenged

The Scottish government are facing demands for all rail fares to be frozen in 2021 after it was revealed that a planned price hike would see them rise by more than the rate of inflation for the first time in seven years.

Scottish Labour transport spokesperson Colin Smyth said the price rise would be "another rip off fare hike" that would "hit people hard at a time many families are already struggling."

Covid Christmas: 'Do not panic buy' say UK firm as countries close borders and ban freight

Consumers have been warned against panic buying after France confirmed it was the latest country to suspend all traffic, including freight and passenger transport, from the UK for 48 hours.

However, the UK's leading trade association, Logistics UK, said: "Shoppers should not panic buy - retailers will be making every effort to ensure there is stock within the system."
