Hi John!

Yo!

I went to see my dad.

I’m glad I went. Sad to witness someone’s decline.

While I was there, I heard from several people thanking me for what I do.

We can learn a valuable lesson from this.

I’ll share a story in a minute.

DAD JOKE OF THE WEEK

“My sister just had a baby. I knew she had it in her!”

CARTOON OF THE WEEK

“Satan Means Adversary and Accuser”

Even though we may not believe in a literal Satan or devils, we may believe that we sometimes face adversity that feels demonic in proportion and accusations that hurt like Hell.

It's tragically sad that for so many of us it's the Church that has been our greatest adversary and meanest accuser.

And it's especially devilish that the Church can believe it's on a superior mission while it is an adversary and accuser of so many people.

POST OF THE WEEK

YOU DON’T DESERVE TO BE ABUSED

One of the biggest issues I experienced in Christianity and the Church and have observed in the lives of others is that suffering is to be expected and is not only deserved but a badge of spiritual accomplishment.

I know that’s not everyone’s. But it was mine and so many others.

It’s still deeply embedded in my psyche that somehow suffering makes us more holy.

The point of this post is that because it’s embedded so deep in our psyche that we need to suffer, those who are abusive take advantage of this and mistreat others.

PAINTING OF THE WEEK

JUST FOR SUBSCRIBERS OF THIS EMAIL… a COUPON!

"Life Would Be So Cold Without You" Original Acrylic and Ink Painting on Canvas.

This painting is one of my favorite canvases.

Even though my paintings often express the beauty of solitude, I think they also express the beauty of courage in solitude. This tree has obviously been through a lot. But there it still stands. It might look like it's given up, but it hasn't. Lots is going on inside. It's called rest. And in due time it will display it's strength and perseverance and life in full color.

It measures 12"x16" with the canvas wrapped around the back and the 1.5" sides painted so it's ready to hang or you can frame it if you wish.

I DID SOMETHING NICE AND HEARD ABOUT IT LATER

Every summer in North Carolina there’s The Wild Goose Festival… a festival for progressive Christianity. I’ve heard it’s similar to Green Belt in the UK.

Every year people want me to go.

But I’m waiting for an official invite as a presenter because it’s super expensive for me to go from Canada.

Plus COVID right now!

Anyway, a stranger contacted me with this story:

“I just returned from the Wild Goose Festival in North Carolina. Saw a man wearing your t shirts (Jesus throwing tables; a fav of mine) and struck up a conversation with him. We agreed you've changed lives, including mine, in so many beautiful and real ways. Thank you!

“Also, I was just pursuing The Wild Goose Community facebook page and you were mentioned and your "I know, and I found her" cartoon was shared.

“I told him I'd just wrapped up reading “The Liberation of Sophia”. I've been reading it for over two years now, slowly digesting its message one page at a time as I walked through my own liberation. He had read it too. I knew the timing of this Goose would be significant in my journey and that I finished Sophia the week before was so beautiful. I can't say enough how much it meant to me at this traumatic and important point in my life.” (Carissa)

This is a lesson for me… and I hope for you… that when you good things and you feel like it is in silence or secret or forgotten or unnoticed… often somewhere sometime down the road you will maybe, just maybe, see some of the fruit of it.

I thought this was a cool story and thought you’d like to read it.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"A system was groping toward a solution, but the solution required someone in it to be brave, and the system didn’t reward bravery." (Michael Lewis, “The Premonition: A Pandemic Story).

This quote about the severe dysfunction of the government and other organizations that should have performed better during the pandemic exactly describes the Church and those who try to get it to perform as it should.

A FINAL NOTE

Although my posts on shame and spiritual abuse have definitely struck a nerve… for those who don’t want me to focus on it as well as from those who do… they will be ending soon as a constant theme.

I do address these issues often. But we’ve been focusing on them for the past 2 weeks. It gets dark and dreary.

But there are reasons to be joyful!

Stay tuned.

David
