I could be the only illiterate think tank president in the world. I hate reading. I say it’s because of being dyslexic, but really, it’s because when you watch TV you can hold a beer in one hand and a sandwich in the other. Try doing that with Moby Dick. People still keep buying me books because, you know, think tank president. Please stop. It’s like giving tennis shoes to a paraplegic. Buy me scotch instead.

But for you literate types, who just have to show off how you can read all the words in order without mixing them up (as if chicks dig that or something), I thought I’d give a list of our latest to enjoy. Don’t worry, I had Dave Kopel read each one of these articles to me in his best James Earl Jones voice and they’re great.

How does the Colorado Education Association ask its members for their valued input? By creating a survey in which their members are forced to answer the way the CEA wants. No, really. Our little five-year-old Eddie found out about it and reports here.

Speaking of education, Ross Izard continues his amazing series profiling private schools in Colorado that meet needs government schools just can’t. We constantly hear that only the government can serve rural families’ need for education. Well, check out the two rural private schools Ross visited here.

You might not have thought of it, but there’s a real difference between a sheriff’s office and a police department. In my latest for the Denver Post I suggest we elect our chiefs of police, just like we do for our sheriffs.

Ever go to Costco or Sam’s Club to stock up on things you’ll use later? Wouldn’t it be great if you could do that with electricity? Well, you can use battery storage. That is, until Xcel Energy stops you. Amy Cooke explains the fight in the state legislature over storing freedom via electricity. And if you really want to geek out on how the state’s Public Utility Commission keeps the whole process an insider’s game, Amy has you covered there too.

Independence Institute researchers regularly write for The Hill, one of Washington’s most important online publications. Our latest installment has Dave Kopel on congress’s opportunity to make sure the concealed weapon permit in Colorado works in all the states.

CompleteColorado.com, which I hope you check out throughout the day, played a role in a getting a Weld County judge to make public information, well, public. Read about it here.

And if you’re tired of reading and you missed our televised debate on illegal immigration and sanctuary cities, watch it here

Please join our good friends at the Leadership Program of the Rockies (LPR) for their annual retreat. The LPR Annual Retreat, The Cutting Edge of Freedom, will be held February 9-10, 2018 at The Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs. The always-intriguing Mark Steyn is the dinner keynote this year, and Dr. Art Laffer is the luncheon speaker. The Retreat will unite national influencers, elected officials, candidates, entrepreneurs, policy leaders, executives, lobbyists, and leaders from every industry for a thoughtful look at the timeless principles of liberty and freedom.  Check out more here!

And yes, Dave Kopel has a little Darth Vader outfit.
