The number of people ages 65 to 74 in the workforce is expected to hit 30.2% by 2026, compared with the 17.5% rate in 1996, and while those working for a company with fewer than 20 employees usually must sign up for Medicare at age 65, those working at bigger employers can keep their group plan, move to Medicare or do a combination of both. Elizabeth Gavino of Lewin & Gavino says workers should figure out the financial impact of each option before making a decision.
