The financial company Discover encourages a “radically agile mindset” across its engineering teams, says Liz MacNair, a tech lead at Discover Consumer Banking. That’s important as Discover shifts toward a product-centric culture driven by small autonomous teams who can work across lines of business to deliver what customers need.

“If there’s a national emergency? Count us in!” says Oracle CEO Safra Catz recounting Oracle’s reaction to 9/11 and COVID-19, where the company opened its doors, offered resources, and employees went above and beyond to offer ambitious solutions. In a post recognizing her as Cloud Wars CEO of the Year, Catz said those moments taught both her and Oracle’s Larry Ellison something about the company: “We feel like we have a mission-driven company.”

Democratizing AI

By making powerful AI services available to people who don’t necessarily have a data science background, cloud computing is helping organizations across many industries apply AI in new areas. These new AI workloads range from GPU-intensive model training and inferencing to general workloads, such as scientific workstations and computer-aided design.

Soaring success

GE Aerospace, the world-leading provider of jet engines, components, and integrated systems for commercial and military aircraft, is working with Oracle to help it meet security requirements for companies doing business with government agencies.
