Sebastian Vettel’s disqualification from the Hungarian Grand Prix is agonizing from him and his Aston Martin team – after such a strong performance, it was a bitter ending.
Does his team’s intention to appeal have much chance in succeeding? I fear not. My gut feeling is that the fuel required for the one-litre sample required for testing is actually probably in there – as the car passed the post-race weight check.
If this is so, you’d think it would only be fair to do everything humanly possible to extract it – but the rulebook doesn’t allow it. Perhaps most annoyingly for them, the 0.3 litres already removed is actually enough to test, but the rules state it must be one litre.
Aston knows how much fuel it put in. The FIA knows how much fuel it used in the race. Aston boss Otmar Szafnauer believes there is 1.44 litres in there, but the internal lift pump isn’t producing it for some reason.
