Good morning Valued Subscriber,
Well it would not be a Hare-Clark election without a few twists after vote. With independent candidates the big winner on election day, the history-makers believe they could still hold the balance of power and say a third seat is still in play. Lucy Bladen reports one new member saying the Liberal Party's concession on Saturday night was a bit premature. In all likelihood, the Liberals are staring down another four years in opposition. Current leader Elizabeth Lee was coy about what the future might hold on Saturday night. But, as Jasper Lindell reports, some in the party think the way forward might be giving the reins back to a former leader. With the recriminations in full swing, one unsuccessful candidate says it's time for the Liberals to get on board with light rail and back its "city shaping" potential. As the rest of us get back to work on Monday, on the light rail or otherwise, spare a moment to consider a more active option. At least that's the call from the Australia Institute whose latest report is urging the federal government to inject billions of dollars to build safer roads for cyclists and introduce tax rebates for people who ride to work. Eleanor Campbell has the details. Today is also the day King Charles III and Queen Camilla stop by the capital as part of their royal visit. Traffic disruptions are expected , so plan accordingly. We're in a for a sunny start to the week, with clear skies and a top of 24 degrees on the way. |
