Mayo cuts back on salt on roads and sidewalks. Despite record-amount snow in southern Minnesota, including Rochester, Mayo Clinic reduced its salt use by 60 percent from the previous winter -- by only using salt when and where it’s needed, instead of just routinely plowing and salting after every snowfall.
