SUN DYED IN TEXAS: FROM MARFA ART INSTALLATION TO CLOTHING

last year, THE DESIGN PRIZE announced multidisciplinary artist and founder of new york sunshine, john margaritis, as the winner of the golden madonnina in the category ‘distribution’ for the installation SUN DYED IN TEXAS with US apparel company dickies. set on a private ground in marfa’s desert landscape, the temporary project featured a house-shaped sculptural piece and a billboard both clad in dickies fabric. for the second part of their collaboration, the two just unveiled a limited-edition apparel collection, strongly influenced by the art installations and creative process in marfa. watch our video interview with john margaritis on SUN DYED IN TEXAS and more, here.

TURNING PLASTIC WASTE INTO SAKE

‘plastic sake brewery' proposes a new process that breaks down biodegradable plastic waste and turns it into japanese rice wine (sake). through four steps, the process produces a biodegradable polymer that can be converted into alcohol, but also into a variety of products as alternatives to petroleum-based plastics: pellets for injection molding, filament for 3D printers, and film for packaging. see more submissions by our readers here, and find out how to upload your own project here.
