milan design week 2021 is just around the corner, and, with our head office in milan, designboom will be reporting from the forefront once again. after a year of absence due to the pandemic, the much-awaited design event will take place from september 5 to 10, and will encompass salone del mobile – or, 'supersalone' this year – as well as a series of exhibitions and events distributed across various areas of the city. discover our extensive guide to the must-see installations and exhibitions, and keep an eye out! we will be updating it as we receive the latest news.

in architecture news, david adjaye broke ground on the first district hospital out of the larger 'agenda 111' set out by the ghana government. the major initiative will see the realization of 101 district hospitals, two psychiatric hospitals, seven regional hospitals, and the redevelopment of the accra psychiatric hospital.

IKEA is branching out into the market of renewable energy. starting in sweden, the company will begin to sell renewable energy, sourced from wind and solar parks, directly to households.

french illustrator jean jullien and fernand surfboards collaborate on a series of playful, hand-painted sea animal boards. speaking of surfboards, father-son duo rob and morgan wylie became the first fliteboarders to cross the english channel non-stop.
