WEEK IN REVIEW THE NEW TRANSCENDENCE AT FRIEDMAN BENDA designboom attends the opening of 'the new transcendence', friedman benda's NYC exhibition exploring the place of the spiritual in contemporary design today. bringing together designers from andrea branzi to samuel ross, the glenn adamson-curated show features works infused with profound significance, whether as relics, ritual tools, or representations. 'the new transcendence is not an exhibition about religion in the organized, traditional, or dogmatic sense,' explains the gallery, 'rather, it aims to discover how design can serve as a vehicle for personal and societal transcendence.' CAPTURING THE HUES OF NATURE, TWO WAYS this week, we featured two projects that capture the colors of nature in two different ways. shion ito transfers the multihued nature of leaves into a set of crayons that subtly prompts 'individuals to reconsider their perceptions of colors in a non-obvious manner'. meanwhile in chromatic herbarium, massimo gardone and alessandra muran document a comprehensive palette of nature’s colors, from petals to leaves and branches, nuanced in countless shades and infinitely combinable. see more submissions by our readers here, and find out how to upload your own project here. the weekly is an inside review curated by sofia lekka angelopoulou. |
