MILAN DESIGN WEEK 2023: IT'S A WRAP!

milan is back to its regular schedule as salone del mobile and milan design week returned to their usual april dates. throughout the past week, historical districts, buildings, and palazzos were activated by numerous events, exhibitions and installations at the intersection of design, architecture and fashion. designboom kicked off the week with philippe starck, who took us around his favorite spots and exhibitions in and out of salone. we also caught up with Hermès maison's artistic directors charlotte macaux perelman and alexis fabry to learn more about the brand's new collections as well as this year's scenography. for the most extensive coverage check our dedicated account here, and explore this year's highlights in detail here.

KUMKUM FERNANDO ON HIS GIGANTIC ROBOT GODS AT COACHELLA

sri lankan-born artist kumkum fernando is one of the four new creatives joining this year’s coachella valley music and arts festival. known for his colorful sculptures of gods and robots, fernando created a new series of otherworldly totemic creatures titled ‘the messengers’ specifically for the 2023 edition of the california festival. designboom spoke with the artist to learn more about his gigantic robot god sculptures, his sources of inspiration, and his creative process – read the interview in full here.

A TEXTURED TABLE SERIES MADE FROM CONSTRUCTION WOOD WASTE
