architecture last week, studio fuksas revealed plans to overhaul a coastal plot in fontvieille, the southernmost ward in the principality of monaco. conceived as a ‘hill that connects the sea to the city’, the plan intends to reinvigorate the district and the port by grouping cultural, commercial, and public spaces within a connected structure. the building’s curved lines evoke the movement of the waves and the topography of the seabed, while also expressing the geometry of the design. in other news, a private island 50 miles north of new york city with two homes designed by frank lloyd wright is back on the market for $12.9m. boasting a heart-shaped land, the island has attracted plenty of controversy in the past as purists — or the frank lloyd wright foundation — have refused to recognize one of the homes as an original wright design... |

art doug aitken is letting a place speak for him. dubbed 'mirage gstaad', the semi-permanent structure bends the landscape it’s named after. the installation uses the frequency of light to reflect the sublime alpine landscape as part of a continually changing encounter in which land and sky, subject and object, inside and outside are in constant flux. standing in contrast to the surrounding chalets, the ranch-style structure suggests a latter-day architectural version of manifest destiny, the westward migration that began in europe and finally settled in california. |

technology a 22-year-old twitter user has gone viral after debuting a clever airpods hack. gabrielle reilly posted a video modelling a pair of earrings that they made using the wireless apple earphones. reilly posted the video to their twitter page on january 26 modeling a pair of earrings they made by attaching an earring onto the the end of an wireless airpod designed by apple. the 14-second video shows gabrielle modelling the hand-made earrings, shaking their head while wearing the earrings, to show how secure the airpods are, before placing them into their ears. |

readers beijing based practice, MAT office, created a pavilion for the 2018 suzhou international design week held in the historic and cultural gusu district. the temporary building is designed for specific public functions, focusing on form-related space, as well as the experience of visitors. the pavilion undertakes information release, cultural salon and other public activities during the design week, along with the development of exposition and art exhibitions. meanwhile, with the new ‘ohm’ collection, the swedish studio kauppi & kauppi celebrates the material, production and the century-long heritage of ifö electric, scandinavia’s only factory producing pressed porcelain. the inspiration from industrial porcelain resulted in a collection of light fixtures for walls, ceilings and tables. |
