dear designboom reader, between the exhibition openings and art events taking place, designboom has had the chance to speak with key figures in the industry to dive into the current climate and themes of the art world. during art basel 2023, we spoke with giovanni carmine, the curator of the ‘unlimited’ sector, who told us about the importance of spotlighting diverse, large-scale artworks in his curation. we also met moroccan, swiss-based artist latifa echakhch, whose work transformed the city’s messeplatz this year, to discuss the idea of 'organizing a free festival, open to everybody, that does not only concern the artwork.' visiting NFT ART DAY ZRH, we talked with keynote speaker kenny schachter, who elaborated on the evolving landscape of digital art, as well as with dr. omar kholeif who delved into the democratization and use of blockchain, NFTs, and AI. swinging by london and the serpentine galleries' 'web(s) of life' exhibition, tomás saraceno explained to us that he hopes his spiderwebs and cloud-like sculptures will encourage visitors to learn to coexist harmoniously with spiders and appreciate the beauty of things. thanks for reading! matthew burgos | editor |
