| | The Crossroads Project is DPM’s new foundation building project model bringing an impactful series of new DPM engagements to the communities of Bourke and Moree in 2023, thanks to funding from NSW Government’s ‘Our Region, Our Voice’ Regional Youth Investment Program. We’re working with a sequence of organisations in both Moree and Bourke to maximise the local impacts including JustReinvest Moree, Miyay Birray Youth Service, Maranguka and 2CuzFM in Bourke and TAFE NSW. Here's an introduction to the CROSSROADS project concept: https://fb.watch/lZBJUJhjzH/ We’ve already delivered a project in both Moree and Bourke, which was an exercise in community outreach and both projects were incredibly successful with groups of young people engaged and multiple short films and 2 powerful songs recorded and music videos created. These will be released later in the year. Meet Shae in Moree: https://fb.watch/lZBI1GpHOb/ Meet Lorraine in Bourke: https://fb.watch/lZBFO69ntc/ This week, we’re back in Moree to deliver our first Training, Skill Development and Leadership program, which will explore the roles and responsibilities of storytellers in the digital age, and how to navigate and manage social media platforms, and some hands-on technical film-making and audio training. DPM has put together Community Kits for these participants to use and keep for ongoing media creations – including a laptop, professional camera and film accessories, audio recording equipment and relevant software. We’re SO excited to see what comes from these emerging creatives. Upcoming for CROSSROADS will be Cultural Exchange Camps in September and everything we are creating through the year will culminate in a massive theatre/ digital media/ arts event in Moree and Bourke in November. Big things coming! We’re pumped to partner with a range of brands and businesses, to help us develop a new generation of young, grassroots, community-led, Indigenous storytellers. One of our most powerful community productions has been nominated for a National Indigenous Music Awards - Community Clip of the Year: The Black Truth - "There's Still Hope". https://youtu.be/KFld_XxbGNU This production was created in November 2022 on Dunghutti Country - Kempsey, NSW. It's an outcome of a unique, collaborative creative process between Desert Pea Media artists, staff at Melville High School, local Dunghutti Elders, community members, cultural leaders and an incredibly talented group of Melville High School Students. The overall purpose of the project was to facilitate an important, inter-generational conversation about social and emotional well-being for Original Nations young people. Focusing on knowledge, education, cultural identity, wellbeing and connection to country. The project was funded and co-produced by Melville High School. The DPM team feel deeply honoured and grateful to learn, share and create with the Kempsey Community. These projects not only uplift and inspire audiences and community members, but everybody involved. |

Desert Pea Media and Jali Aboriginal Lands Council recently hosted the world premiere of a short film and music video created with the Bundjalung / Nyangbul Community of Cabbage Tree Island. Back in May 2022, DPM was invited by Jali Lands Council to work with the Cabbo Community to create a short film that documented the impacts and after-effects of the devastating floods in the North Coast Region. At the Launch was the world premiere of the CABBO CREW music video "We Just Wanna Go Home" and the short film "Ngubiny (home)" that explores the communities connection to Cabbo and their hopes for the future. Also - there was an amazing photographic exhibition from Bundjalung lensman Kris Cook. This project has been funded through: NSW Aboriginal Land Council, Aboriginal Affairs - NSW. Supported by: Rous Council, M&K Business Solutions and Ballina Coast High School. The short film and music video will be available to the public soon. Stay tuned! |
