Good day, Tiger fans. Some news has the ability to shock. But the news that LSU All-American cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. has undergone a procedure on his foot (it's really a surgery) and is out indefinitely was not a huge surprise. Stingley missed the Tigers' past two games and hasn't been practicing. Stingley said he will try to play again this year, but in my column I say folks shouldn't expect that Stingley will play another down for the Tigers. If that's true, how should his legacy as an LSU player be judged? Discuss. There was some good news for LSU on Wednesday, as star wide receiver Kayshon Boutte returned to practice. There was also the interesting sight of receiver Koy Moore taking reps at running back. The reason Moore may get some carries is that LSU's coaching staff is looking to do anything it can to juice up a running game that ranks 128th of 130 FBS teams with 70.6 yards per game rushing. One reason the running game has been so ineffective? A lack of holes created by LSU's offensive line. Wilson Alexander takes a dive into trying to help us understand while the O-line has struggled so badly. Meanwhile, LSU coach Ed Orgeron has a message for his offensive coordinator Jake Peetz: go faster. He also wants to see more carries from promising freshmen running backs Corey Kiner and Armoni Goodwin. While football rolls on, basketball is starting to come into focus as well. Jim Kleinpeter gives us insights into why eight LSU women's basketball veterans decided to return for the 2021-22 season under Kim Mulkey, starting with All-SEC point guard Khayla Pointer, niece of former LSU coach Nikki Fargas. LSU's running game should be on the run that former Tiger All-American golfer Sam Burns is on. He won the Sanderson Farms Championship on Sunday in Jackson, Mississippi, his second victory of 2021, and vaulted to No. 18 in the world rankings. Burns looks like a star in the making. Lastly, we bring you LSU's weekly bowl projections. For the first time that I can remember, a couple of projections don't figure on the Tigers even making a minor bowl this season. Check out which ones here. Before we go, please welcome our newest LSU beat writer, Leah Vann. She comes to us after covering the Iowa Hawkeyes, who are in the thick of contention for a CFP berth. Leah will help cover football and will be our LSU baseball beat writer as Wilson moves into the lead role on football. She files her first stories this week, so give her a read and give her a follow on Twitter. Until next time, LSU fans. Scott Rabalais |
