Africatown building sold by descendants of Clotilda owner cannot be renovated, will be demolished
A former credit union was sold to the city for $50,000 in a transaction that was pitched as a "discount" for the Africatown community. But the building is in such bad condition that it's not cost effective to renovate. The building also represented the first -- and so, far, the only -- time that the Meaher descendants have made any public comment since the Clotilda was discovered in 2019.
