The Advocate's Top Headlines

with Jennifer Wadsworth | Assistant metro editor

Welcome back! We got a lot of great stories for you this weekend.

Delta blues

The fast-spreading delta variant is driving the coronavirus surge throughout Louisiana, but in few places more so than the Florida Parishes.

Reporter James Finn stopped by a cash-for-shots clinic where he asked people how they overcame their aversion to the COVID vaccine.

He also teamed up with Jacqueline DeRobertis on a separate story — which you can read here — about how the rural margins of the capital region have been grappling with case counts higher than at any point in the pandemic. And in some cases, with higher per-capita infections than almost any other part of the country.

More tiki troubles

For the third time in as many weeks, first-responders had to rescue tiki-tubing customers of a trouble-prone water sports company from the Amite River. In the latest incident, there were 15 who got stranded.

Local grantees

A Walk On's franchisee and Chimes were among some of the local recipients of a $48 million pot of grants to keep restaurateurs afloat. Did one of your favorite eateries make the list?

As always, thanks for reading!
