Hi John!

I've been away for a bit and learning things that I already knew.

If you know what I mean? If you don't, we'll get to that in a sec.

But first...

In this week's email:

  • Cartoon: Harassment, not comfort 📖
  • Dad Joke: It's 'unheard' of 😅
  • Video: Deconstruction instructions ⛓
  • Post: From my new account ❤️
  • Original: Seeing you, for you 🪞

And an ANNOUNCEMENT you don't want to miss !!

CARTOON OF THE WEEK

What a Weekend cartoon

QUOTE SCRIPTURE

It’s never words of comfort, love or kindness that get quoted at you.

They’re not quoting scripture… They’re using their fighting words to get a rise out of you or hurt you.

If it feels like harassment, it probably is.

DAD JOKE OF THE WEEK

I was once attacked by a whole group of street mimes.

They did unspeakable things to me.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Is there a best way to Deconstruct?

Is there a best way to Deconstruct?

In this video I respond to those who claim that there is a good and bad way to deconstruct your beliefs and your faith.

Can you guess what I suggest?

POST OF THE WEEK

Holy Are These Ghosts

You Are Where You Are Meant to Be

This is the first post on my new Instagram account!

Some people find it hard to believe that the person who draws the controversial NakedPastor cartoons is the same person who creates these contemplative paintings and charcoal drawings. But they are all an expression of my passion for personal freedom... mine and yours! My paintings depict what freedom looks and feels like to me. It’s spacious but not empty. Solitude but not lonely. One but one with all things.

Each one of my artworks has a story and I love sharing them with you.

This watercolor is called "Holy Are These Ghosts". It's a reminder that even when things feel unclear, you are where you are meant to be.❤️

ORIGINAL PAINTING OF THE WEEK

When I Finally See Myself Original Watercolor Painting

"When I Finally See Myself"

Have you met yourself yet?

It's marvellous when you do.

I mean... when you meet yourself beyond all theology and judgements and condemnations.

And, when you do, you fall in love with yourself and commit to a lifetime together.

Authentically. Compassionately.

This one-of-a-kind original painting measures approximately 6"x7" with enough room for matting and framing.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO BE HERE NOW?

Lisa and I got away for a week to the beautiful Prince Edward Island. We spent every day of the week on the beach. It was glorious!

I came back refreshed and felt like a new man.

There were a few things I learned that changed my life. Actually… these are things I’ve known, but now I really know! LOL. I know you know what I mean! I mean… you know things… but when you actually apply them for a period of time and actually feel their benefits… that’s really knowing.

I want to share them with you. Maybe you already know these but don't know them yet.

1. Take care of the body. Breathe. Eat as well as you can. Exercise. Move! As much as you are able.

2. Stay offline. As much as you can. This is a challenge for me because everything I do is online. But I have a team of people who help me and I’m determined to use their help more.

3. Touch the earth. Walk barefoot… on grass, gravel, rock, sand. Breathe the air. Feel the leaves, smell the blossoms, taste the salt in the air (I’m by the ocean).

All these sum up in this one short sentence: Be here now.

Be in your body.
Be present.
Be on the earth.

I came back KNOWING this works. I’m determined to apply it always.

What do you do to be here now?

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

As you know, I’m an artist with many layers which manifest in the different kinds of art I make.

There's my contentious side. My cartoons are all about questioning religion and sticking it to the man (mostly, the church).

Then there's my contemplative side. My artworks are meditations about the deeper, spiritual journey I’ve been on during my deconstruction.

But Instagram's algorithm has shown that it doesn’t like my wide variety of content and often hides my art from you all. This can be really disheartening for me.

That’s why I’ve decided to make a dedicated second account for my art that includes my watercolors, canvases, charcoals, woodcuts, sculptures, and more.

A FINAL NOTE

Thank you so much for supporting me and my art. I can't believe our community has grown so much that it needs TWO Instagram accounts!

Speaking of which, if you have any ideas about what you'd like to see on my new account, I would love to hear them. Just reply to this email.

And remember to be in your body, be present, and be on Earth.

Have a great weekend folks.

Much love, my friends!

David
