Deaths on the job increase, federal data show
Worker deaths from on-the-job injuries hit 5,190 during 2016, up 7% from the previous year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Transportation workers accounted for more than 40% of the 2016 total, and leisure and hospitality workers saw a 32% spike in on-the-job deaths compared with 2015.
