The Roaring 21âs |
Dear , Hello to all of our new subscribers! This is our monthly newsletter that takes a deep dive into all things jazz! We also send two weekly emails. One comes out on Sundays with the upcoming and following weekâs lineups. Weâre playing with what time of day that one comes out. The second comes out on Wednesday evenings and focuses on that weekendâs shows. We hope to see you soon. Normally, this monthly newsletter comes out on the 2nd Sunday of each month, but our Featured Musician, Kim Dawson, is performing on November 18th & 19th. We want you to know about her now so that you have time to come to the show, so for this month, the newsletter comes out on the 1st Sunday. Enjoy! |

Featured Musician: Kim Dawson |
|
Arturo GĂłmez, Denverâs KUVO Music Director, interviews Kim Dawson about her four upcoming shows at Dazzle @ Baur's, November 18 & 19, 2021. As Dazzle @ Baurâs continues to celebrate its 25 Anniversary, Kim Dawson joins the lineup with four shows over two evenings. The early shows are a duet with B3 organist Wil Blades and the late shows are purely her own sound. There is a lot of thought and passion put into these shows. The duets are a demonstration of their personal and professional friendship with the B3 organ mixing beautifully with Dawsonâs instrument: her voice. Kim Dawsonâs solo work is an eclectic mix of R&B, neo-soul, and funk with a love-laced passion for all things jazz that came from the forced break during the pandemic. It was an opportunity to slow down and cultivate her own creativity. While not quite a Denver native, she has been here since her early years and is closely tied to the Denver musical community. Sheâs performed in variety of bands: alt-rock, soul, punk, R&B, and her roots are in gospel. Kim worked hard to explore the value of every facet of music, and she now combines them into her own music. Since there is such a blurring of genre lines right now, it is the perfect time for her unique sound to take the stage and shine. Dazzle @ Baurâs, âone of the great jazz clubs in the world,â according to Arturo, is honored to have her take our stage and dazzle audiences over the two nights. |

| As Denver loses some of its jazz clubs, a live, time-traveling jazz activation at the MCA asks: How do we save things from being lost to time?Still, there remain some local music venues like Mercury Cafe, Dazzle and Nocturne. [Ron] Miles says that as local musicians continue to innovate, itâs important to think about what existing places we want to keep around, and what is essential to telling the story of Colorado. |
