Nonprofit of the Month: Youth on Record

Each month, Dazzle raises money for a different non-profit organization by adding the option to donate through our ticketing sales system. March is a time when the community can come together and collectively agree that “music matters”.

Donations of any amount can be added to your ticket purchase to any show through March 2023 to support Youth on Record’s ‘Music Matters’ annual fundraiser. Youth on Record empowers Colorado’s underserved youth to achieve their academic, artistic, and personal best by employing local, professional artists as their educators.

This show explores the lives and music of two of the great legends of jazz. They were close friends for decades, and some say there was more to it than that. Together they created some of the most important music in jazz history.

The Flatirons Jazz Orchestra - featuring award-winning singer Deborah Stafford, is a traditional 18-piece big band that authentically recreates the great Swing-Era music of Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Stan Kenton, Gene Krupa, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Diane Schuur, Buddy Rich, and more.

You may know Yayennings from his work with the 5x Grammy award winning band Snarky Puppy. Upon a move to Los Angeles in 2017, his solo project The Yayennings Quartet was born. The band's second album "Yayennings Vol. 2" will be released on March 31, 2023 on GroundUp Music. Tonight, Yayennings is introduced to Denver's finest jazz musicians on the scene and will play a mix of his original material as well as standards from the American song book.

Held monthly, the Kids’ Saturday Matinee provides children and parents with opportunities to share in the fun of making music by listening to and watching performances, participating in easy group activities such as sing-alongs, and introductions to various musical instruments in participatory demonstrations.

Programming is fun and engaging for all children from 5 to 15 and their families, supporting happy and healthy development that includes intellectual, social-emotional, motor, language, and overall literacy. Learning and performing music is integrative, and helps the body and the mind work together. Introducing children to music early in their lives can help them enjoy a lifelong relationship to this most natural of all human arts.

Same Cloth is a charismatic, Denver-based, Black woman-led band that uses their peculiarities to share meaningful art. Same Cloth performs original music and creative cover arrangements that, along with JoFoKe's charisma and vocal stylings, are brought to life by Solomon Chapman on keyboards, Will Gaines on bass, Callum Bair & James Tré on guitar and Matt Campbell on drums. As a unit, Same Cloth combines the diverse traditions of Black American Music to create an energetically eclectic and emotionally elevating live music experience.

In addition to serving as ‘Artists in Residence’ at one of Downbeat Magazine’s “Top 100 Jazz Clubs in the World'', Dazzle, since 2021 and an impressive list of past performances, Same Cloth's debut single, "No Good" was a Local 303 December 2022 feature on 13 radio stations throughout the state of Colorado.

Jon Gauer Octet

Trombonist Jon Gauer will present a set of original music performed by some of the most talented young musicians in Denver. The Octet is Gauer's first project as a composer/bandleader after more than a decade of experience as a sideman. His musical influences range from classic artists such as Urbie Green, Curtis Fuller, Benny Golson, and Thad Jones, as well as modern artists including Michael Davis, Marshall Gilkes, Snarky Puppy, and Hiatus Kaiyote.

Suite ti is a 6-to-8-piece musical ensemble created and formed by Ron Ivory, lead vocalist, and keyboardist as a springboard of The MilesApart Band R&B group and rhythm section for his One on One (Motown/Classic Soul) group in the fall of 2007. Suite ti mixes Contemporary and Smooth Jazz, a bit of R&B, Standards, Blues, and more with their own original compositions in a dynamic fashion at every performance.
