She has also shared the stage with Lionel Hampton and his Orchestra, Chester Whitmore's Black Ballet Jazz, and the Platters. In 2023, LadyMay was named as an awardee for the “Next Jazz Legacy” grant program created by NEA Jazz Master, Terri Lyne Carrington in partnership with the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice and New Music USA with funding from the Mellon Foundation. Ron was an original member of the Skellenger group from 2006-2014, and he is featured on the group's first 3 albums. During that time, Matt and Ron performed a handful of duo concerts together.

Our master storyteller will choose various willing audience members to come up on stage and play specific roles in the play. We need everything from a band of pirates, mermaids, and even a talking parrot. No one gets left out of the act because EVERYONE helps from their seats learning the pirate laugh, the pirate eyeball and our extraordinary pianist will teach us all to Talk Like a Pirate.

Gift of Jazz Presents: A Centennial Tribute to Sarah Vaughan feat. Myra Warren

Many of us can imagine Sarah Vaughan’s iconic voice in an instant. Born in 1924 in New Jersey, Vaughan’s vocal career spanned more than four decades. After growing up surrounded by music, when Vaughan was 18, her friends dared her to enter the famed Wednesday Night Amateur Contest at Harlem’s Apollo Theater. She sang “Body and Soul,” and won first prize. In the audience that night was the singer Billy Eckstine. Six months later, she had joined Eckstine in Earl Hines’s big band along with jazz legends Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker.

We are celebrating the Centennial year of Sarah Vaughan with a performance of her music by Denver vocalist Myra Warren.

Jack Hadley was born in the Philippines into a military family. When they returned to America, they were stationed in San Francisco where he spent his childhood in the Haight-Ashbury district. The family eventually moved to Denver, Colorado, where he learned to play music by ear, playing everything from Hendrix to Dylan, unaware that he was learning the foundation of American music – the Blues.
