| | Roma RansomSaturday, March 23 -11:00PM
"Great music should do three things- connect you to the past, inspire you to envision the future, and find you wholly in the present moment. Roma Ransom does all three. Their repertoire includes old-time traditional ballads like âShady Groveâ and âSt. James Infirmaryâ as well as sounds from European cultures, mainly that of Romania (hence the duo's name) yet the music of Roma Ransom is distinctly their own. The sultry sweetness of Grace Easley on vocals paired with the coupleâs vast instrumental array combine to form a style that can fit the mood for any setting. The couple was trained classically from an early ageâGrace on violin/viola, Gordon on guitarâŠâ -Gordon Lewis

| | Gift of Jazz Presents: A Centennial Tribute to Sarah Vaughan feat. Myra WarrenSunday, March 24 - 6:30PM
Many of us can imagine Sarah Vaughanâs iconic voice in an instant. Born in 1924 in New Jersey, Vaughanâs vocal career spanned more than four decades. After growing up surrounded by music, when Vaughan was 18, her friends dared her to enter the famed Wednesday Night Amateur Contest at Harlemâs Apollo Theater. She sang âBody and Soul,â and won first prize. In the audience that night was the singer Billy Eckstine. Six months later, she had joined Eckstine in Earl Hinesâs big band along with jazz legends Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker.
We are celebrating the Centennial year of Sarah Vaughan with a performance of her music by Denver vocalist Myra Warren.
