Hey Dayton! Welcome to our weekly Dayton Food & Dining Newsletter! Last week I talked about Sunday brunch, but this week itâs all about Sunday dinner. Over the weekend, I went to a wedding on Friday and a FC Cincinnati game on Saturday. When it came to Sunday, I was ready to sit down and have a homecooked meal! My husband and I went to The Carriage Inn, located at 25 Green Valley Drive in Enon. On Sundays, they have an all-you-can-eat fried chicken special that comes family style with coleslaw, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy and biscuits. Credit: Natalie Jones I do enjoy the Sunday special, but I opted for a BLT with coleslaw and fries. If youâve never had coleslaw from The Carriage Inn, itâs a must. This was my first time having their hand-cut fries and I was NOT disappointed. Credit: Natalie Jones Throughout the week the restaurant has specials like chicken and noodles, meatloaf, turkey hotshots, chicken pot pie, pork chops, cabbage rolls, eggplant parmesan, lasagna, baked cod and several others. Pine Club partners with Esther Price Candies for after-dinner treat The Pine Club, also known as Daytonâs iconic steakhouse, will serve complimentary Esther Price chocolates emblazoned with the restaurantâs logo at the end of each meal starting Nov. 1. The restaurant has partnered with Esther Price Candies to celebrate its 75th anniversary. The Pine Club has not served dessert in its 75 years of operations. Other long-standing traditions the restaurant is known for includes no reservations or use of credit cards. This new partnership will launch with a dark chocolate product followed by a co-branded mint-chocolate product in 2024. The Pine Club, located at 1926 Brown Street, is open for dinner service from 4:30 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 4:30 to 11 p.m. Friday and 4 to 11 p.m. Saturday. Doors open at 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. >> PHOTOS: The Pine Club through the years Dayton nativeâs gluten-free, vegan bakery to open in new space Credit: Tyler Jamison Monster Baby Donuts, a gluten-free, vegan bakery specializing in allergy-safe food, is opening its first brick-and-mortar location at East Market, a food hall in Columbus near Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Owner Emma Fleming, a 2015 Miamisburg High School graduate, started Monster Baby Donuts about a year ago by doing pop-ups around the Dayton area. If you recognize the name, youâve probably seen her at 2nd Street Market or the Oakwood Farmers Market. Monster Baby Donuts specializes in mini donuts, but also offers mini muffins, cookies and fudge. Popular donut flavors include Orange Cranberry, Second Breakfast (a chocolate chip donut with a maple glaze), Apple Pie and Cookie Monster. The business is holding a grand opening at East Market on Friday. The bakery will then be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Monster Baby Donuts are available locally at Billie Gold Bubble Tea Lounge, 732 Watervliet Ave. in Dayton. Restaurant known for chicken tenders opens in Centerville Huey Magooâs Chicken Tenders held a grand opening for its second Dayton-area location on Monday after a soft opening over the weekend. The fast-casual restaurant chain is located at 6228 Far Hills Ave. in Centerville. The space was previously home to Hot Head Burritos, which closed in Sept. 2022. Huey Magooâs offers grilled, hand-breaded or âsaucedâ chicken tenders, salads, sandwiches, wraps and crinkle-cut fries with a variety of dips like Magooâs, Sweet Heat, Garlic Parmesan or Barbeque. I havenât made it to Huey Magooâs just yet, but the reviews on Facebook seem like everyone is enjoying it! The chain opened its first Ohio restaurant at 9196 North Main St. in Englewood in June 2022. Franchise owner Tim Hobart previously told me the Englewood location was the first of 20 restaurants he and his wife plan to open in the Dayton, Columbus-area. Ann Hellerâs favorite recipes: Chicken in Many Mustards Ann Hellerâs career at the Dayton Daily News writing about food and restaurants spanned three decades. She also published two cookbooks including âThe Best of Itâs Simple!ââ âChicken is every cookâs answer to the quick fix,â Heller wrote. âMarinades, started ahead, add flavor and do their work while we work or play.â Ingredients: 1/4 cup Dijon mustard1/4 cup whole seed mustard1/4 cup hot mustard1/4 cup white vinegar1/4 cup olive oil1/2 cup apple juicejuice of 1/2 lemon1 whole shallot or onion, slicedfreshly ground black pepper4 chicken breast halves, on the bone Directions: Combine all ingredients, except chicken, in a large bowl and whisk to emulsify. Put chicken in marinade and mix well with hands to thoroughly coat pieces. Marinate at room temperature for two hours (or in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours). Lay a charcoal fire and when the coals are ready, place chicken on the grill, skin-side down. Cover and cook for 15 minutes; turn and cook another 10 to 15 minutes.
