Dear reader,

Has anyone seen the Eglinton Crosstown? The mega-project was supposed to be serving thousands of riders a day by now, connecting Keelesdale in the west to the Golden Mile in the east. You can’t blame Metrolinx for pandemic-related delays, but to my mind, former CEO Phil Verster (who recently resigned) never convincingly explained why the train is now four years late and more than $1 billion over budget—and why the consortium of construction companies building it has successfully sued the transit agency twice.

Still, reminding myself of the line’s eventual virtues brings me back to sanity. It will make travelling along Eglinton up to 60 per cent faster, will relieve the entire network, and will one day connect to both Pearson and U of T’s Scarborough campus. And its use will result in 6.5 million fewer car trips per year. These are all good things. We just have to wait for them—likely until June. 

Which brings me to Curb Appeal’s top post this week: a $3.1-million Forest Hill detached steps from the coming Chaplin Hill station. It’s a terrific family home—large, elegant and functional—and its proximity to the train makes it an extraordinary investment.
