QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Worst view…in the world” - British graffiti artist Banksy, on his new hotel in the West Bank. It faces a 26-foot security barrier, and it’s reportedly booked through June. Apparently honesty sells.

PEACHES 'N POLLS

THE STORY

Today, Georgia is holding a primary vote to fill one of its empty House seats in DC. The whole political world is watching.

WHY?

Because the seat has been red for decades, and now it could go blue da ba dee da ba die. The seat opened up earlier this year after Tom Price said ‘c ya later’ and became Health and Human Services secretary. Last year, President Trump won the district by juuuust a little bit. So now, Dems are trying to capitalize on the empty seat and turn it blue. This also comes just a week after a Kansas House race – in a district that Trump won by A LOT– where a Dem nearly beat the GOP candidate.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW?

The candidate everyone’s talking about is Jon Ossoff. He’s the 30-year-old Democrat who’s raised more money than any other candidate. Most of which is from out-of-state donors who see the race as a chance to stick it to the (Trump) man. If he gets more than half the votes today, he wins. If he doesn’t, the race goes to a runoff in June. Yesterday, Trump called out Ossoff for wanting to “protect criminals” and “raise taxes.” Ossoff said Trump is “misinformed.”

This is an early litmus test for how Republicans are doing in the Trump era. And how serious the liberal opposition is about shifting the political landscape.

REPEAT AFTER ME...

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU DON’T LIKE YOUR CO-WORKER’S PROPOSAL…

Time for some tough talk. Yesterday, President Trump said North Korea’s “gotta behave.” For years, NK’s leader Kim Jung Un’s favorite hobby has been building out and testing the country’s weapons inventory. Including nukes. Former President Obama’s game plan for dealing with NK was called “strategic patience.” Aka sanctions. It didn’t work. Over the last few weeks, NK’s tested at least six missiles. That includes one over the weekend that fell flat on its face. NK also says it’s working on a missile that could reach the US. Meanwhile, China — NK’s biggest ally — is caught in the middle, trying to defuse the tension. The Trump administration’s been pushing China to get Lil Kim to make some better life choices, in exchange for better US-China trade deals. And yesterday, VP Mike Pence said the US is ditching that whole “strategic patience” plan. The North responded by saying that “thermonuclear war may break out at any moment.” Something fun to look forward to.

WHAT TO SAY AFTER YOU FINALLY PAY ‘THE MAN’...

Set aside a little more for Uber. Yesterday, taxi officials in New York City intro’d a proposal that would require Uber to allow passengers to tip their drivers. ICYMI, Uber’s app doesn’t give you the option to tip because it wants to keep the experience “hassle-free.” Earlier this year, a group that reps thousands of NYC drivers for apps like Uber filed a petition saying that rule’s not working for them. They say they’re losing out on thousands of dollars in potential tips. So now officials in NYC want apps that let you pay with a credit card (cough, Uber, cough) to get on the tipping bandwagon. The proposal would have to get a thumbs up from the NYC taxi commission. But if that happens, drivers in other states might start saying ‘us too.’ For now, Uber’s saying it’ll take a look at the proposal because it’s always “striving to offer the best” for its drivers. Makes cents.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT...

A Cleveland, OH murder suspect. Yesterday, authorities said their manhunt is now a nationwide search effort. Over the weekend, police say the 37-year-old suspect posted a video of himself on Facebook that shows him shooting and killing an elderly man in Cleveland. It’s unclear why he did it, but he’s been on the run ever since. And authorities say he may even now be in a different state. This is just the latest in Facebook-videos-gone-wrong (see: recent incidents streamed on Facebook Live in Chicago). And it’s raising a few Qs about how the social media network deals with violent content. A few hours after this murder, Facebook took the video down and later said it’s looking into how to make it easier to flag these sorts of videos. Good idea.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOUR GYM BUDDY RUNS HER FASTEST MILE EVER...

You’re a stahhh. Just like these runners.

WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR FRIEND WHO’S UPSET CARMELO MIGHT BE TRADED…

Good thing he has his personal life to fall back on. Not.
