Inwardly, have we progressed? Inwardly, psychologically, inside the skin, are we different from those who lived thousands of years ago? We are still afraid, we are still greedy, we are still ambitious, we are still ruthless, competitive; we are seeking prestige, position, domination. Progress implies both inward and outward. Actually, the division between the inner and the outer doesn’t exist at all – we have divided it and run away with the outward implications of progress. Inwardly, we have not made great progress, and therefore outward progress will always be dominated by our inward demands. You may have the most perfect society ideologically, but the human being, unless inwardly there is a tremendous revolution, will always dominate the outward structure. This is fairly obvious. So our problem is: how is a human being to change so completely that they are above or beyond outward progress?
