They're wearing jeans, long-sleeve shirts, and work boots as they perform squats and curl 30-pound cinder blocks. The workout is part of a free training program sponsored by Women In Non Traditional Employment Roles, or WINTER, which gets women—many from low-income and underrepresented communities—ready for apprenticeships to become carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and other skilled tradespeople. |
