SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY Mosiah 29:32
And now I desire that this inequality should be no more in this land, especially among this my people; but I desire that this land be a land of liberty, and every man may enjoy his rights and privileges alike, so long as the Lord sees fit that we may live and inherit the land, yea, even as long as any of our posterity remains upon the face of the land. QUOTE OF THE DAY Joseph Smith
“This people will be the staff upon which the nation shall lean and they shall bear the Constitution away from the very verge of destruction.—Then shall the Lord say: Go tell my servants who are the strength of mine house, my young men and middle-aged, etc., Come to the land of my vineyard and fight the battle of the Lord. Then the Kings and Queens shall come, yea the foreign saints shall come to fight for the land of my vineyard, for in this thing shall be their safety and they will have no power to choose but will come as a man fleeth from a sudden destruction. I know these things by the visions of the Almighty. (Joseph Smith Collection; from an address given 19 Jul 1840)” For more Quote of the Day Click Here!
TODAY IN CHURCH HISTORY June 29, 2021
1844 - Before a public funeral, over ten thousand Saints view the bodies of Joseph and Hyrum Smith at the Mansion House in Nauvoo, Illinois. . . Fear of a bounty on the head of the Prophet led Emma to have the real coffins containing the bodies buried secretly in the basement of the unfinished Nauvoo House across the street from the Mansion House at about midnight. The ground was smoothed as it was before the burial so that no one would know they were buried there. (History of the Church, 6:628). In the fall, the bodies would be moved across the street and buried beneath the “bee house” where they remained until discovered and re-buried in 1928 at their present location in Nauvoo near the Mississippi River in the Smith Family Cemetery. Like A Lamb To The Slaughter ~ Revisiting the Martyrdom of Joseph Smith. by Craig R. Dunn "Governor Ford said this about the martyrdom: 'Thus fell Joe Smith, the most successful impostor in modern times; a man who though ignorant and course, had some great natural parts, which fitted him for temporary success, but which were so obscured and countered by the inherent corruption and vices of his nature that he never could succeed in establishing a system of policy which looked to permanent success in the future.'"
