SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY Doctrine and Covenants 45:56–57
"And at that day, when I shall come in my glory, shall the parable be fulfilled which I spake concerning the ten virgins [Matthew 25:1–13]. For they that are wise and have received the truth, and have taken the Holy Spirit for their guide, and have not been deceived---verily I say unto you, they shall not be hewn down and cast into the fire, but shall abide the day."
QUOTE OF THE DAY Lorenzo Snow | "I say to the Latter-day Saints, if any of you are sleepy, read the words of the Savior spoken when He was upon the earth in regard to the ten virgins, five of whom were wise, and took oil in their lamps, and when the Bridegroom came there was only one-half prepared to go out to meet Him. Do not let it be so with us as Latter-day Saints. Let us try to be true to the everlasting covenants that we have made and be true to God. God bless the Latter-day Saints and pour out His Spirit upon you. May you be faithful to your God, faithful to your families, and conduct yourselves with prudence in all things, and labor for the interests of the kingdom of God, and that we may not be among the foolish virgins” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Lorenzo Snow, p. 282-283).
TODAY IN CHURCH HISTORY August 8
1844 - . Sidney Rigdon stood in a wagon in front of the stand and spoke for one and a half hours presenting his case to be the new leader of the Church. A break for lunch was taken and the group reassembled at 2 p.m., at which time, Brigham Young arose to speak. He gave a moving speech on the position of the Quorum of the Twelve holding the keys of the kingdom of God and the rightful heir to the Prophet Joseph. Amasa Lyman then stood and spoke in support of the Twelve. W. W. Phelps then arose at the request of Sidney Rigdon in his support, however, Brother Phelps spoke in support of the Twelve. Parley P. Pratt spoke in support of the Twelve. Then, Brigham Young again arose and spoke and then called for a vote of support. The vote was unanimous in support of the Quorum of the Twelve leading the Church. For More History, Click Here!
