SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY Doctrine and Covenants 97:15-16
And inasmuch as my people build a house unto me in the name of the Lord, and do not suffer any unclean thing to come into it, that it be not defiled, my glory shall rest upon it; Yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it, and all the pure in heart that shall come into it shall see God. QUOTE OF THE DAY John Taylor
“Why do we build temples? Because Elijah conferred certain keys which he held upon Joseph Smith. And when he laid his hands upon elders conferring on them the holy priesthood, they carried the principles imparted by Elijah to Joseph to you and to others. … And by and by as the church began to gather together, we began to talk about building temples in which to receive and to administer ordinances which had been revealed unto Joseph Smith, pertaining to the interest of the living and the dead and necessary to our salvation and exaltation in the kingdom of our God, as well as for those for whom we administer. And we have not only talked about it but have done considerable in that direction” (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: John Taylor, p. 185). For more Quote of the Day Click Here!
TODAY IN CHURCH HISTORY August 21, 2021
1877 - While President of the St. George Temple, Wilford Woodruff recorded in his journal the following: visit from George Washington: “You have had the use of the Endowment House for a number of years, and yet nothing has ever been done for us. We laid the foundation of the government you now enjoy, and we never apostatized from it, but we remained true to it and were faithful to God.” Wilford Woodruff then called upon Brother John D.T. McCallister to baptize him for the signers of the Declaration of Independence, as well as fifty other renowned men. The temple work for their wives and native American leaders would take place shortly thereafter. For More Church History, Click Here!
