| | | | | Oct 2, 2020 | | | | | | Good evening, Just a few days ago, President Trump was mocking candidate Joe Biden for wearing a mask. In fact, from the beginning of the pandemic, the president has played down the crisis, saying it affects virtually no-one and even suggesting that injections with bleach might be a possible cure. Many found this amusing, saying it is what we expect from the president, But in fact some of this is not only unfunny, it is incredibly dangerous and has helped to give legs to the ‘shamdemic’ theories which abound particularly on social media. We may live half a world away, but we can see all around us the effects of living with this virus. Those who have lost family are devastated, our health and social care workers are bracing themselves for another march into the breach and the rest of us have huge limitations on our lives in an attempt to keep those most at risk safe. Right thinking people across the world will hope that the president and his wife make full recoveries, but some of us will also hope that it makes him think again before he dismisses the effects of Covid-19.
