“It choked me up, what went through my mind was am I ever going to see her again,” said Val Yazell about the first time she held her hand up to a glass window to connect with her mother, Maxine Evans, as COVID-19 restrictions kept her from seeing her in person while she was in the Regency Care Nursing Home. “It was like being able to look into her eyes and just know we were connected.” Evans passed away in December of 2020 and though she never was infected, Yazell said her mother was a victim of COVID-19 “in many ways” because of the depression her mother felt amid the isolation caused by the pandemic.
