He fantasized about birth-parent reunion. Now his voice helps others

Canh Oxelson, 49, of Hartsdale, the son of a Vietnamese mother and Black American GI, was adopted as an infant by a white couple from California. Oxelson, photographed June 28, 2021, grew up convinced that the only way to find his birth mother was to train to become an Olympic swimmer. Then his mother would see him on TV and recognize him. He became NCAA swimming champion, but did not become an Olympian. Having connected with members of his birth family, he still hopes to one day meet his birth mother.
