Hizbullah-Iran Plot Against Israelis in Cyprus Revealed ( Globes) Cypriot police on Sunday reported that six members of Hizbullah and Shi'ite organizations were being charged with planning a terror attack against five Israeli businesspeople in Cyprus on behalf of Iran. The group was headed by Orkan Asadov, 38, an Azari citizen, who was arrested in the parking lot of a swimming pool in Nicosia with a gun in his hand. He was found to be using five names and had four Russian passports and various driving licenses. On his phone was the insignia of Hizbullah. Asadov was working with a Pakistani who was arrested in Paphos. Three others arrested are Pakistani Shi'ites living in Iran with Cypriot-Lebanese citizenship.
Report: Chief IRGC General in Syria Shunned by Assad ( Maariv-Jerusalem Post-Times of Israel) Syrian President Bashar Assad has shunned the commander of Iranian forces in Syria, Javad Ghaffari, Al-Arabiya reported Wednesday. Sources in the presidential palace said Ghaffari had been dealing with the smuggling of goods and the establishment of a black weapons market that could compete with the Syrian market. In addition, the Saudi news channe Al-Hadath reported that the Syrians blamed the Iranians for taking advantage of Syria's natural and economic resources for its own gain and for evading tax payments to the Syrian regime. It also revealed that Ghaffari had stationed Iranian forces in places that were not approved of by Syria and conducted a number of attacks against the U.S. and Israel against the regime's guidelines, including the drone attack on the U.S. base at At-Tanf in southeastern Syria on Oct. 20 by Iranian-supported militias.
Iranian Arms Smuggled from Yemen into Somalia - Katharine Houreld ( Reuters) Guns supplied by Iran to its Houthi allies in Yemen are being smuggled across the Gulf of Aden to Somalia, according to the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime, a Geneva-based think tank. Based on data from more than 400 weapons documented in 13 locations across Somalia, "a preponderance of evidence points to Iranian state supply," said the study published on Wednesday.

Claims of Israel Bulldozing Palestinian Graves Are Libel - Emily Schrader ( Jerusalem Post) Palestinian social media would like you to believe that Israel is bulldozing Palestinian graves in Jerusalem in order to build a theme park. The Palestinian Authority news agency WAFA claimed that "dozens" of bodies had been dug up by Israel. The reality is that no Israeli forces are bulldozing anything; there were construction workers doing landscaping work for an archaeological park, but no graves have been desecrated or moved and no drilling, demolition or excavati on is occurring.
How Fares the New Palestinian City of Rawabi? - Ari Flanzraich ( Ha'aretz) Rawabi markets itself as the first new Palestinian city in modern times, situated 35 minutes north of Ramallah. Construction began in 2010, financed initially by Palestinian-American entrepreneur Bashar Masri and aided by substantial Qatari funds. To date, 1,600 housing units have been built, with work underway on an additional 400, while the master plan is for 6,000 units. Rawabi has gained popularity among wealthier Palestinians and has also attracted Israeli Arabs. It's current population is 5,000, of whom 70% consider the city their perm anent home. A municipal official described the other 30% as "weekend/ vacation" visitors. Amal, 46, a resident of the Israeli Arab city of Umm al-Fahm, said his brother was among the first to buy a property there. "I thought there would be people living there. They are selling lots of apartments, but no one is living there: you pass through in the evening and the place is empty." Amal says, "The simpler villagers of the West Bank see Rawabi as something alien and ill-fitting." The central commercial strip is usually bustling late into the night, while the outer residential areas feel like a ghost town, with few cars and little movement.
Irish Cultural Boycott of Israel Feeds Anti-Semitism - Oliver Sears ( Irish Times) Unfortunately, support for the cultural boycott of Israel in Ireland, especially among some writers, musicians and artists, has grave and unintended consequences that I suspect are little understood by those whose intentions may be well-meaning. The reality is that every time a high-profile individual embraces the cultural boycott of Israel, incidents of anti-Semitism increase in every form, everywhere. It is bewildering to witness the haranguing by some Irish politicians of successive Israeli ambassadors while these same representatives refuse to condemn some of the world's worst offenders of human rights with anything like the same vigor. Some are even embraced. The absence of any expression of genuine empathy for the suffering of Israelis or Jews is telling.
Ford Taps Israel's Watergen for In-Vehicle Drinking Water - Ricky Ben-David ( Times of Israel) U.S. carmaker Ford is partnering with Israeli water-from-air company Watergen to offer built-in drinking water in its recreational vehicles. The Watergen Mobile Box, which buyers can have installed in new Ford Ranger vehicles, can make up to 20 liters of fresh drinking water a day. Watergen said, "The ability to produce clean drinking water without relying on an external water source is a gamechanger for those who seek off-grid adventure."
Israel's Elbit to Provide Royal Navy with Electronic Warfare Systems ( Xinhua-Chin a) Israeli defense electronics company Elbit Systems announced on Tuesday that it signed a $100 million, 13-year contract to provide electronic warfare (EW) systems to Britain's Royal Navy. "These latest generation technologies will enhance the situational awareness and anti-ship missile defense of front-line platforms," Elbit said. On Monday, Elbit announced it had signed an $88 million deal to provide and operate training aircraft for Britain's Royal Air Force.
Elbit to Bring 300 Jobs to South Carolina - Joseph Bustos ( The Herald-Rock Hill, SC) Elbit Systems of America plans to open a new facility in North Charleston to assemble automatic self-propelled howitzer guns for the Israel Defense Forces that will bring 300 jobs to Charleston County next year. The company identified 280 suppliers in South Carolina that can provide materials and services in that effort. "Establishing this facility is part of a strategy to increase Elbit Systems' engineering and manufacturing capabilities in the U.S. and contribute to strengthening America's defense industrial base," with future efforts to include supplying the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security, said Elbit Systems CEO Raanan Horowitz.

| News Resources - North America, Europe, and Asia: - Jeering Pro-Palestinian Crowd Threatens Israel's UK Amba ssador - James Gant
Israel's ambassador to the UK was bundled out of the London School of Economics on Tuesday when pro-Palestinian students tried to storm the building. Tzipi Hotovely, 42, was rushed into her diplomatic vehicle by her bodyguards as protesters screamed and tried to grab her. Home Secretary Priti Patel, Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, and Minister for the Middle East in the Foreign Office James Cleverly condemned the "aggressive and threatening behavior" on Wednesday. A spokesman for the Israeli Embassy said: "Ambassador Hotovely was invited to speak with students at the LSE titled the 'New Era in the Middle East.' It was a successful, open and fruitful discussion that went ahead as planned. Outside the venue, there was a demonstration organized by Palestinian and Islamic societies across London universities." Earlier video showed Hotovely speaking to students during a calm question and a nswer forum. She said: "The IDF never targets civilians, period. The IDF will target civilian places where rockets are being launched from because, according to international law, you're allowed to target places that are the infrastructure of a terror organization. But the IDF never, and I can stand behind this, the IDF never targets civilians. Terrorist organizations are targeting [Israeli] civilians." Reem Ibrahim, 19, who is studying government at the university, said: "Anyone who thinks that shutting down open discussions will help Palestinian people is deluded." Members of the LSE Student Union Debate Society are understood to have received death threats for hosting the event, despite them hosting another event Thursday with Husam Zomlot, Head of the Palestinian Mission to the UK. (Daily Mail-UK) See also below Commentary: Attack on Israeli Ambassador in London - At the UN: "The United States Will Continue to Oppose Every Effort to Delegitimize Israel"
U.S. Ambassador Richard Mills, Deputy Representative to the UN, said Tuesday: "The United States' position is that Israelis and Palestinians deserve equal measures of freedom, dignity, security, and prosperity....The package of resolutions we are voting on today do not serve that goal. We are disappointed that Member States continue to disproportionally single out Israel." "One-sided resolutions like those introduced here today only distract from the real efforts to achieve peace. This effort will only be strengthened when the bias of the United Nations against Israel ends. The United States will continue to oppose every e ffort to delegitimize Israel." (U.S. Mission to the UN) See also U.S. Abstains on UN Vote Affirming Palestinian Refugees' Right to Return to Israel - Tovah Lazaroff The Biden administration abstained Tuesday on a UN General Assembly Resolution affirming the right of return for Palestinian refugees to sovereign Israel. The Trump administration had voted against such resolutions, but the Obama administration had abstained. The measure was one of six anti-Israel resolutions adopted. Israel says the right of return for Palestinians to Israel would destroy the country's identity as the national homeland for the Jewish people. (Jerusalem Post) - U.S. Tests Israel's Iron Dome in Guam as Defense Against Chinese Cruise Missiles - Alastair Gale
Israel's Iron Dome missile-defense system is being tested in Guam by U.S. military planners concerned about Chinese missiles. Guam is a U.S. territory in the Pacific that is home to 190,000 American civilians and servicemen. Its Air Force, Navy and Marines bases are 1,800 miles from China, making them the closest bases to China on American soil. Facilities on the island would be critical staging points during any conflict in the region. Iron Dome was developed in cooperation with Raytheon and designed to destroy short-range rockets and artillery up to 40 miles away - the kind of weapons Palestinians fire against Israel. Nonetheless, the system has shown some ability to intercept cruise missiles that travel below t he speed of sound, such as CJ-20 missiles that the Pentagon says could threaten Guam if fired from Chinese bombers. In August, the U.S. Army destroyed eight cruise-missile surrogate targets in a test of the Iron Dome at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. (Wall Street Journal)
News Resources - Israel and the Mideast: - Palestinian Human Rights Worker Convicted of Terror Financing - Yonah Jeremy Bob
An IDF West Bank court on Wednesday convicted Spanish-Palestinian human rights activist Juana Rashmawi of financing terrorism in a plea bargain. Rashmawi, who worked for the Union of Health Work Committees (UHWC), con fessed to the same kind of terrorism-financing conduct that Israel has accused six other NGOs of. Defense Minister Benny Gantz said, "The defendant dealt extensively with fundraising for the PFLP. Donors, including countries around the world and international organizations, were systematically misled to fund a terrorist organization." A Foreign Ministry source called the case "a big piece of the puzzle" regarding the NGOs. "She knew she was raising money for terrorism and admitted it." (Jerusalem Post) See also The Conviction of an Activist Who Raised Funds for the PFLP (Israel Ministry of Defense) - Israel Broadens Strikes Against Iran in Syria - Amos Harel
A reported Israeli airstrike in Syria on Monday targeting a missile factory in Homs province would be the seventh such action in a month. Israel is seeking to prevent Iranian weapons from reaching Hizbullah. It is also striking at other Iranian interests, such as Shi'ite militia bases and locals working for Iran and Hizbullah near the Golan border. The operations attest to the availability of precise intelligence which allows for precision strikes. Defense Minister Benny Gantz said Tuesday that Israel will not allow Hizbullah and other Iranian proxies to "equip themselves with means of combat that will undermine our superiority in the region." Two weeks after a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Naftali Bennett in Sochi, it is evident that Russia is not es pecially concerned about Israeli attacks on Iranian targets. It is also doubtful whether the attacks are of much concern to the government in Damascus. (Ha'aretz) - Report: Israel Rejects Release of Palestinian Prisoners in Exchange for Information on Israelis Held in Gaza - Khaled Abu Toameh
A senior Hamas official claimed on Monday that Israel has turned down an offer, relayed through the Egyptians, to receive information about Israelis held in Gaza in return for the release of Palestinian prisoners. Hamas holds the bodies of IDF soldiers Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul, who were killed during the 2014 Israel-Hamas war, and two Israeli citizens, Hisham al-Sayed and Avera Mengistu, who entered Gaza on their own in 2014 and 2015. &n bsp; Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya said, "Israel must be prepared to pay the price," and that Hamas will be forced to "kidnap" Israeli soldiers. (Jerusalem Post)
Global Commentary and Think-Tank Analysis: Observations: - A senior Hamas delegation that visited Iran in October and met with Supreme Leader Khamenei is the latest sign of the close partnership between the Sunni Palestinian terror organization and the Shi'ite Islamic Republic.
- "Iran has an interest in relations with Hamas, because it wants to surround Israel from all sides," said Col. (res.) David Hacham, a former Arab affairs adviser to seven Israeli defense ministers and a senior research associate at the Miryam Institute. "By establishing strongholds in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, it is surrounding Israel."
- The head of Hamas' political bureau, Ismael Haniyeh, who is based in Qatar, and the head of Hamas in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, have a positive view of Iran. Haniyeh was a prominent guest at the funeral of the late Quds Force Commander Qassem Soleimani in January 2020.
- "Since 2017, the money has been flowing to Hamas without stop, and the sum is estimated to be many tens of millions of dollars per year," Hacham said. At the same time, Iran provides support to "all variants of radical Islamic organizations in Gaza, with an emphasis on Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which is a central Iranian proxy."
- Within Gaza, Hamas is using Iranian technical know-how to enhance its rocket arsenal's range. "Iran has taught Hamas how to build its own domestic rocket manufacturing industry," Hacham said.
- Iran also provides training for Hamas operatives, shares offensive and defensive operational plans and batt le doctrines, and passes along scientific and engineering information needed for producing ever-improving rockets, explosives, and other weapons in Gaza. "This is all continuing at full speed," said Hacham.
- "Around a decade ago, according to Palestinian reports, Iranian military experts were on Gazan soil, and were killed in an Israeli attack," he added.
