Derek Jeter’s first-person forum for athletes has a new owner. Minute Media has acquired The Players’ Tribune, which Jeter launched in 2014, following his retirement from the New York Yankees for an undisclosed sum. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to be consummated by year-end. The Players’ Tribune joins Minute Media’s stable that includes 90min, 12up, DBLTAP, Mental Floss and The Big Lead. Based in Israel, the company will provide enhanced technology, infrastructure and global reach to stoke future growth for The Players’ Tribune. Jeter will continue to be directly involved as the platforms’ founder and a member Minute Media’s board of directors. “When we led this category of athlete-driven stories five years ago, we couldn’t imagine The Players’ Tribune would transform the landscape the way it did. We’re looking forward to continuing to give athletes a voice -- around the world,” Jeter said in a statement. PROGRAMMING It’s only been 23 days since the Washington Nationals won the World Series by topping the Houston Astros in Game 7, but for those with a baseball Jones, there is some welcome news: ESPN will provide tripleheader coverage on March 26, Opening Day for the 2020 MLB season. The defending champions will face the Mets at 1p, followed by the Dodgers/Giants at 4p. The nightcap between the Astros and Angeles is scheduled for 7p. Over the course of the campaign, ESPN will televise 14 games, featuring 17 clubs. MLB Network will throw out the first pitch on a full-length edition of its social-media initiative #SandlotToTheShow on Nov.23 at 7p. Billy Ripken will host the one-hour, kids-focused program featuring some of the best user-generated content #SandlotToTheShow segments from the 2019 season, including the network’s analysts offering hitting and fielding tips to young hardball and softball players. Impact Wrestling has pinned a multiyear TV pact with e.TV that will showcase the grappling circuit’s action across more than 50 countries in Africa. The deal calls for coverage of the group’s weekly shows IMPACT! and Xplosion,, as well as IMPACT Plus Presents, its monthly event series, library content and an annual pay-per-view card. IMPACT! will begin airing on weekly basis in January on e.tv, while other content will be rebroadcast on free-to-air satellite platform, Openview. Comcast Xfinity has joined the roster of distributors that are offering TUDNxtra, Univision’s supplement streaming service. TUDNxta provides viewers with 11 channels for additional futbol fare, including matches from UEFA Champions League, World Cup qualifiers and other competitions. The service launched in September and is available through the TUDN app and TUDN.TV as well as fuboTV and DISH Network. Subscribers to Cox Communications and Altice USA’s Optimum and Suddenlink systems, and now Xfinity customers, can accesss the action via authenticated logins. Four-time champion Abner Mares and Shawn Porter, former two-time welterweight king, will join hall of famer Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini and host Kate Abdo in programming on Nov. 22 and Nov. 23, ahead of Fox Sports PBC PPV: Deontay Wilder on Luis Ortiz card on Saturday night. Screenvision Sports has inked deals with the New York Mets, Minor League Baseball, the American Hockey League, and ISM Connect, which manages digital fan experiences for NASCAR.
