MSG Networks and FanDuel announced a new sponsorship agreement that will designate FanDuel as an official sports gaming partner for New York Knicks and New Jersey Devils broadcasts on MSG Networks. The partnership includes a mix of in-game and halftime integrations, branded content and commercial spots that will air during MSG Networks’ Knicks and Devils game broadcasts, as well as features that will air during the team’s pre- and post-game shows. Devils telecasts will also showcase live updates and updated betting odds on the ticker during each intermission to keep fans up-to-date between periods.
 
PROGRAMMING
 
AXS TV and Fight Network inked a partnership with Hispanic Mixed Martial Arts sports franchise Combate Americas to become the exclusive English-language broadcaster of Combate Americas MMA events in the United States and Canada. AXS TV and Fight Network are slated to air a minimum of 35 of Combate Americas’ live MMA events in 2020, which will also be aired internationally on Fight Network’s international feeds. “Combate Americas is continuing to make history and disrupt the greatest sport in the world with our brand of Mucha Más Acción. This historic deal with AXS TV and its new ownership group will allow us to add Spanish flavor to every home in the U.S. and Canada in 2020,” said Combate Americas CEO Campbell McLaren. AXS TV and Fight Network are subsidiaries of Anthem Sports & Entertainment Inc.
 
In more AXS TV news, the net will deliver a new fantasy football series packed with expert analysis, commentary, and more in All AXS Fantasy Football —premiering this Sunday, November 10 at 12pE. The series is being produced for AXS TV by Farra | FoxDog Productions, and is the network’s first-ever live fantasy sports program.
 
Bellator MMA has once again partnered with the USO to present a special live event free for the troops, along with their friends and families, on Friday, December 20. Emanating from Neal S. Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii, the show will be headlined by a heavyweight bout featuring the Bellator debuts of “The Warmaster” Josh Barnett (35-8) and Ronny Markes (19-7).
 
Two commentator teams from ESPN’s college football and NFL rosters will call ABC and ESPN’s 22-game schedule during the XFL 2020 season. Play-by-play voice Steve Levy, analyst Greg McElroy, field analyst Tom Luginbill and reporter Dianna Russini will call the XFL kickoff game – Seattle Dragons vs. DC Defenders (Feb. 8), the West Final (April 19), the XFL Championship (April 26) and weekly Saturday games on ABC in 2020.
 
ABC will broadcast the 2019 MLS Cup Presented by Audi on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 3pE, with the Sounders FC hosting Toronto FC at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. The match will also be streamed on the ESPN and ABC apps. It will be the 22nd MLS championship on ABC or an ESPN network and the return of Major League Soccer’s championship to the broadcast net for the first time since 2008.
 
PGA TOUR Champions announced the 2020 tournament schedule, featuring 27 events and culminating with the fifth annual Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. The Tour will hold tournaments in four foreign countries and 18 states, with total prize money of nearly $59 million. The 2020 season will mark the first year of PGA TOUR Champions eligibility for a number of the game’s biggest names. World Golf Hall of Fame member Ernie Els celebrated his 50th birthday on October 17, while 17-time PGA TOUR winner and 2010 FedExCup Champion Jim Furyk, 2003 Masters champion Mike Weir, 2011 PLAYERS Champion K.J. Choi and World Golf Hall of Fame member Phil Mickelson will all turn 50 in the next 12 months.
 
FOX Sports plans an all-out production blitz for its presentation of No. 4 Penn State at No. 1 Ohio State on Saturday, Nov. 23. Before the BIG NOON SATURDAY clash between the Big Ten East Division powerhouses, the network presents a special two-hour edition of BIG NOON KICKOFF with studio locations inside and outside Ohio Stadium. Host Rob Stone and analysts Brady Quinn, Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart and former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer are live on FOX beginning at 10:00 AM ET from outside the southeast entrance to Ohio Stadium near the Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC).
 
CBS has ordered GAME ON!, a sports comedy entertainment series based on “A League of Their Own,” the BAFTA-winning U.K. series currently in its 14th season on Sky. The U.S. version will be hosted by Emmy and Peabody Award-winning actor, writer and producer Keegan-Michael Key, and will feature tennis champion and entrepreneur Venus Williams and New England Patriots Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski as team captains. Actor and comedian Bobby Lee and Emmy Award-winning writer Ian Karmel (The Late Late Show) will serve as comedian panelists.
 
Sinclair Broadcast Group has signed a multiyear carriage deal with Mediacom Communications for Marquee Sports Network. The deal provides carriage for the Cubs' upcoming RSN in parts of Illinois, Indiana and Iowa.

The NFL, Nike and Fanatics announced a new, long-term global partnership that extends Fanatics' exclusive consumer product licensing rights to manufacture and distribute all Nike NFL adult products globally. The agreement builds upon a three-way deal first signed in 2018 that splits responsibilities between Nike as the league's on-field provider and Fanatics as fan retailer. Fanatics will operate NFLShop sites across key international markets including Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the U.K., Germany and China.
 
DIGITAL, DATA AND  TECH
 
New research from video platform Imagen suggests a generational shift is happening among sports fans across the major US pro leagues, with Millennial and Gen Z fans showing a desire to interact with sports content beyond live games, and a strong preference for more personalized engagement with content. Four times as many Millennial and Gen Z fans watch over three hours of non-game sports content each week compared to Baby Boomers, 78% of fans enhance their live experience with non-game content by dual screening while watching a live game and 39% of Millennials are willing to pay for exclusive online sports content. What’s the takeaway for the TV industry? “The study we conducted surfaced a number of interesting insights for content owners and rights-holders across the sports media landscape,” Ryan Rolf, Imagen CRO, tells Cynopsis. “Game broadcasters should do more to embrace second screening through official companion apps and social streams or otherwise risk fans consuming content in-game via competing platforms. While influencer content and traditional TV formats should not be thought of as isolated entities, instead influencers should be embraced for their authenticity by implementing them into programming that breaks down the traditional wall between teams, and their fans. Then when it comes to sporting archives, our research suggests rights holders would benefit by giving direct access to fans and embracing the short-form formats so popular on YouTube.”
 
Sportlogiq and the National Lacrosse League have agreed to a multi-year partnership through which the Montreal-based sports analytics leader will become the NLL’s Official Statistics Partner.  The agreement will see Sportlogiq collect, analyze, and distribute live match data and advanced level statistics from every game, beginning the 2019-2020 season.
