As the new NHL season gets underway tonight, PPG and the NHL unveiled a three-year extension of their partnership, with PPG continuing its status as the Official Paint of the NHL in the US and Canada. In addition, all official game pucks used in the 2019-2020 NHL season will include a color-changing thermochromic coating that changes from purple to clear when a pucks temperature is above freezing, providing a visual indication to officials that the puck should be replaced. The renewed three-year deal will continue to enable PPG to promote its partnership on PPG paint product packaging, on point-of-purchase displays, in contests and promotions, and through social media and digital marketing. NBC Sports drops the puck on the 2019-20 NHL season at 8p on NBCSN, when the defending Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues host the 2018 Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals on NBCSN’s NHL Face-Off. Coverage continues at 10:30p with the Vegas Golden Knights and the San Jose Sharks in Las Vegas. Pre-game coverage starts with a special 90-minute edition of NHL Live at 6:30p. PROGRAMMING Kevin Durant’s Thirty Five Ventures cemented a series deal with Apple for Swagger, a new basketball-themed drama series, starring Winston Duke (Black Panther, US) from Thirty Five Ventures’ Kevin Durant & Rich Kleiman and Imagine’s Brian Grazer. The show is inspired by NBA champion and entrepreneur Kevin Durant’s youth basketball experiences and explores the world of youth basketball, and the players, their families and coaches who “walk the fine line between dreams and ambition, and opportunism and corruption.” Ratings numbers saw Telemundo Deportes’ Titulares y Mas rank as the highest-rated sports studio show in Spanish-language television among adults 18-49, according to Nielsen. Telemundo reports that the 2018-2019 season saw TYM average 194,000 adults 18-49 Monday-Friday. Univision saw its telecast of the America-Chivas SuperClasico draw 2.0 million Total Viewers and 1.1 million Adults 18-49 on Saturday to rank as the most-watched club soccer match of the year on any network, regardless of language. Total Viewers 2+ and Adults 18-49 were up 17% and 24% over last year, respectively. CBS Sports Network celebrates “Armed Services Saturday” this weekend with Navy, Air Force and Army all playing on the network. Army opens up the event by welcoming Tulane at noon with Ben Holden and Ross Tucker on the call and Tina Cervasio on the sidelines. CBS Sports Network features the first leg of the Commander-in-Chief trophy, as Air Force travels to Annapolis to take on Navy at 3:30p.
