PROGRAMMATIC Google has launched the open beta of its Exchange Bidding on DoubleClick for Publishers. As opposed to the technique of header bidding, Google claims Exchange Bidding provides publishers with monetization opportunities without compromising the user experience. In a blog post, Google says publishers can be up and running with the technology in under a day, and that those participating in the closed beta have see programmatic revenue increase by as much as 40%. RESEARCH First View , or promoted videos that run at the top of users’ time lines on Twitter, are more effective than “standard view” ads that appear throughout the same feeds. That’s the takeaway from The Art of the Takeover: Optimizing What Consumers See First, a joint undertaking by Interpublic’s Media Lab and its Magna division in conjunction with the social platform. According to the study, takeovers are on-screen an average of 50% more than ads that appear lower in the feed. New data from Hitwise peg the Netflix audience size at 55.8 million, far ahead of Hulu (10 million) and Amazon Instant Video (7.6 million). Hitwise says the Netflix audience lies mostly between 25 and 44, while Amazon attracts the Gen X cohort. Hulu’s is more diverse, with its largest segment being older Millenials (25-34).
