IN THE NEWS The DoJ yesterday reported it reached a settlement with broadcast television companies - Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc., Tribune Media Co., Raycom Media, Griffin Communications and Dreamcatcher Broadcasting - to end unlawful agreements to share nonpublic competitive information. The case, which had been filed in federal court in Washington, DC, alleged the broadcast station owners, as well as Meredith Corp. and Raycom Media Inc., exchanged “competitively sensitive information” that gave them an advantage when negotiating advertising prices with ad buyers. The settlement has a seven-year term. Animal Planet Global president Susanna Dinnage just upped her game with her appointment as CEO of English soccer’s Premier League. Dinnage, a Discovery staple for nearly a decade, will start at the sports organization in early 2019, replacing executive chairman Richard Scudamore. She’ll become the first woman to hold the title. Start your engines, the reboot of Discovery-owned Velocity as MotorTrend Network is happening Friday, November 23, at 6a. The fully HD net is available in 73 million homes nationwide. The launch will be heralded by a block of episodes of Bitchin’ Rides, Wheeler Dealers and Iron Resurrection. CNN yesterday in DC District Court filed its lawsuit against the White House for pulling correspondent Jim Acosta’s press pass after President Trump’s press conference the day after the midterm elections. “The wrongful revocation of these credentials violates CNN and Acosta’s First Amendment right of freedom of the press, and their Fifth Amendment rights to due process,” CNN said in a statement. Not surprisingly, the suit elicited a strong response from the White House. “Just more grandstanding… We will vigorously defend against this lawsuit,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement. A new lawsuit yesterday from Boardwalk Empire alum Paz de la Huerta piled on more allegations against disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein. Although de la Huerta has made previous claims, she had not revealed an incident that occurred in 2011 in which she alleges Weinstein exposed himself to her “in a taunting manner” and “invited her to participate in a three party sexual encounter” at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, according to the suit. Netflix has opted out of dramedy The Good Cop, starring Tony Danza and Josh Groban, canceling the series after one season.
