PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT Anthony Jeselnik (The Jeselnik Offensive, Caligula) inked a multiplatform deal with Comedy Central. The comedian will star in and executive produce an untitled, half-hour TV series and host a new weekly podcast, The Jeselnik and Rosenthal Vanity Project, co-hosted by his best friend, NFL Network analyst Gregg Rosenthal. Paramount Network greenlit a full, 10-episode series order ofDarren Star’s Emily in Paris (wt). The half-hour show will be part of a new Thursday dramedy night launching in January. iHeartMedia partnered with HowStuffWorks and Tenderfoot TV for a second season of Atlanta Monster, which will launch as Monster: The Zodiac Killer. Atlanta Monster delved into the horrific Atlanta Child Murders that took place form 1979 to 1981. Oxygen Media inked an overall development deal with Paul Holes, the hero detective who helped bring the Golden State Killer to Justice. “Paul embodies what Oxygen is all about,” said Rod Aissa, Executive Vice President, Original Programming and Development, Oxygen. “His story is of the highest stakes, a career journey with brilliant investigation work that resulted in justice for dozens of victims and their families.” Homecoming creators Eli Horowitz and Micha Bloomberg signed an overall deal with Universal Cable Productions, the studio behind the upcoming Amazon series starring Julia Roberts. The pair will develop original scripted programing with UCP for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s portfolio, as well as external networks and streaming services. Following the success of 24-hour event The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs in July, Shudder is bringing back the horror host for Thanksgiving and Christmas specials, The Dinners of Death and A Very Joe Bob Christmas, respectively. Shudder is also launching a regular series featuring Briggs in 2019. NEW & RETURNING SERIES Two Syfy series were issued October return dates. Season 3 of Van Helsing bows Friday, October 5 at 9p, followed by the Season 5 premiere of Z Nation at 10p. Bravo Media’s new primetime talk show, Bravo’s Play by Play, debuts Monday, September 24 at 10p. Vegas Rat Rods brings motor madness back to Discovery Channel, when the show’s fourth season premieres Monday, October 1 at 10p. The US premiere of BBC America’s new Doctor Who on Sunday, October 7 will be timed to its UK broadcast, with an encore in primetime. The exact time has yet to be announced. COMING UP NBC Sports special FedExCup Playoffs: PGA TOUR’s Ultimate Prize, presented by Cologuard, airs Sunday, September 9 at 1:30p on NBC. Billy Eichner’s Billy on the Street, which left TruTV a year ago, is returning as an on-line exclusive series. RATINGS Pre-emptions for breaking news, sinking pre-Labor Day viewing levels and a heavy dose of reruns threw off ratings in the summer session ending August 26. Talk shows were once again led by Dr. Phil (2.5 Live+SD national Nielsen rating, down 4% from the week before), extending its winning streak in the category to 103 weeks and rising 10% in the key W25-54 demo. Live With Kelly and Ryan (1.9, down 5%) secured sole possession of second place for the tenth week in a row and climbed 10% in the demo. Ellen DeGeneres (1.5, unchanged) came in third Meanwhile, some of the off-net sitcoms showed some spark.Last Man Standing (2.1, up 5%), Modern Family (1.9, up 6%), Two and a Half Men (1.5, up 7%) and Family Guy (1.5, up 7%) were all in the plus column.
