The Hills are alive, again, on MTV. The network announced the series’ return with new docuseries The Hills: New Beginnings. Reboot will reunite original cast members, alongside their children and friends.

AXS TV’s The Big Interview With Dan Rather celebrates its 100^th episode with a sit-down interview with The Beatles’ Ringo Starr on Tuesday, October 2 at 9p.

The CW announced the dates for its crossover event with The Flash (Sunday, December 9 at 8p), Arrow (Monday, December 10 at 8p) and Supergirl (Tuesday, December 11 at 8p). The crossover also marks the first appearance as Batwoman, as portrayed by Ruby Rose.

NBC renewed summer competition series Making It for a second season. Hosted by Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, the show’s debut telecast on July 31 earned a 1.4 rating in A18-49 and 6.3 million Total Viewers in Live+7.

FOX ordered a third season of Beat Shazam with Jaime Foxx returning as host and EP. Interactive music game show is averaging 3 million multi-platform viewers and ranks among the summer’s Top 20 broadcast programs in A18-49.

HGTV ordered a second of Hidden Potential. Home renovation series attracted over 13 million viewers during its freshman run.

Netflix is adding to its stand-up comedy roster. The streamer is working on an hour-long Tiffany Haddish special that will tape early next year and premiere worldwide later in 2019.

HBO issued a series order to comedy pilot Mrs. Fletcher, starring Kathryn Hahn and directed and executive produced by Nicole Holofcener. Project is a coming-of-age story about the impact of an Internet porn and social media on lives of an empty nest mother (Hahn) and her college freshman son.

Nicole Kidman and Per Saari’s Blossom Films, Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories and Theresa Park are teaming to produce a new series based on Cecelia Ahern’s upcoming short story collection Roar. GLOW’s co-creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch will EP and serve as showrunners on the project,

Apple nabbed the rights to develop a series based on Nathaniel Rich’s New York Times Magazine story Losing Earth: The Decade We Almost Stopped Climate Change and his upcoming book on the same topic. Anonymous Content will produce the project with Rich and Anonymous CEO Steven Golin (Spotlight) to executive produce.

Geek & Sundry and Alpha, Legendary Digital Networks’ interactive streaming platform, acquired sci-fi series SONA from Ashley Clements (The Lizzie Bennet Diaries). Show centers on protagonist Lieutenant Belyn Sona, a Untied Earth Space Corps officer in a future in which aliens are no longer welcome on Earth, including her husband.

Mafia Killers with Colin McLaren- “John ‘the Teflon Don’ Gotti” bows Wednesday, August 29 at 10p on Reelz. Show centers on the man who murdered his way to the top of New York’s most powerful mafia family.

MGM’s daytime court shows, Couples Court with the Cutlers and Lauren Lake’s Paternity Court, return with new episodes on Monday, September 17.

Despite the fact that Facebook’s free ad-supported ‘Watch’ on-demand video service launched just over a year ago, the offering continues to face significant challenges regarding feature awareness and use. New research from The Diffusion Group found that half of adult Facebook users have never heard of the free Watch video service. Meanwhile 24% have heard of it, but have never used it, despite Watch being featured on the social network’s navigation bar and marketed heavily within the Facebook app.

In mid-2018, TDG surveyed 1,632 adult Facebook users and found 21% view shows on Watch at least monthly, 14% weekly, and 6% at least once a day. While populated by content from a number of independents, legacy studios are finding ways to dip their toes into Watch with some success. ABC’s TV Station Group launched Localfish, a digital-first media brand, whose More in Common debuted in July and, to date, has garnered 5 million views and 50,000 subscribers. “Despite the slow build of Watch users, it would be remiss to underestimate Facebook’s long-term potential as a large-scale video provider,” said Michael Greeson, President of TDG. “As we first noted in 2016, prominent social platforms like Facebook are looking for ways to exploit their massive scale to sell new video services to their users, much as Amazon has done with Prime. Watch is a small first step in that direction, as is the $1 billion Facebook set aside in 2018 to fund originate programming to populate the service.”

After 20 years, ESPN Insider is going away. The Disney-owned sports media giant is switching subscribers over to ESPN+, its newly launched premium streaming service. ESPN has started notifying Insider subscribers about the change which takes effect on Tuesday, August 28.

Kevin Durant’s Thirty Five Media and American Family Insurance are set to debut branded content series Dream to Achieve. Featuring CEOs at the top of their game and inspirational stories about the road to success, Durant, his business partner Rich Kleiman and guests explore what it really takes to achieve dreams. The first two episodes of the series will go live on Durant’s YouTube channel.

CBS All Access launches original series One Dollar in Canada on Thursday, August 30, with new episodes available on demand weekly on Thursdays, mirroring the show’s rollout in the U.S.

GOING GLOBAL

Six-part BBC One/Masterpiece newspaper drama Press debuts September in the UK, following on Masterpiece in 2019. The series, created by Doctor Foster’s Mike Bartlett, is set in the world of competing London papers and stars Ben Chaplin and Charlotte Riley.

TCB Media Rights secured three original commissions: World’s Most Incredible Hotels, World’s Most Extraordinary Families and Wild Tube, a series about the real world of animals with insights into how they mate, create homes, rear their young and more.

RATINGS

Judge Judy (full season to date 6.9 Live+SD household rating) will be the highest rated program in all of syndication for the fifth year in a row. For the current week, Judy (6.4) was entirely in reruns, but still grew 3% from last year and finished first among all shows.

On the talk front, Dr. Phil (2.7, steady) remained in command for the 101^st straight frame, despite being in repeats all five days. Live With Kelly and Ryan (2.0, unchanged) took sole possession of second place for the eighth consecutive week and rose 13% in the key W25-54 demo. Ellen DeGeneres (1.5, down 6%) came in third.

FOX Business Network marked its 27^th consecutive week as the leader in business news. Averaging 198,000 total viewers, FBN saw a 19% advantage over CNBC during Business Day last week.
