IN THE NEWS Fox has expanded its Showtime at the Apollo specials into a full-on series, with Steve Harvey onboard as host. “We all had such a blast on the two specials that aired earlier this season that we thought it really deserved being a weekly event,” said Harvey. The show, focused on finding the next great comic and next great music star, is slated for the 2017-18 season. Conservative The Blaze countersued Tomi Lahren, saying the host’s pro-choice comments on The View last month that got her suspended were “simply the latest in a series of events that led The Blaze management to conclude that The Blaze did not intend to extend her contract beyond the end of its term in September 2017.” As for Lahren’s suit claiming The Blaze terminated her 2-year contract early, The Blaze says she is still employed and being paid, and they were just exercising a “pay or play” option. The FCC approved the sale of Time Warner TV station WPCH Meredith for $70 million. The transaction likely smoothes the path for AT&T’s $85 billion acquisition of Time Warner, since the deal would now not involve a broadcast license. Sinclair Broadcast Group has enlisted former Trump campaign spokesman Boris Epshteyn as chief political analyst. Epshteyn will offer insight on political stories for Sinclair’s 173 stations. “Over a year ago, we made a commitment to provide additional political content that goes beyond the podium to provide a true point of difference with additional context,” said Scott Livingston, Sinclair VP of news. “Mr. Epshteyn brings a unique perspective to the political conversation and will play a pivotal role in our mission to dissect the stories in the headlines.” |
