DeGeneres told Hart that she had called The Academy and been told they would be “thrilled” if he took back the job. Of online critics who attacked Hart for years-earlier derogatory jokes about gay people, DeGeneres said, “Don’t pay attention to them. They are a small group of people who are very, very loud. We are a huge group of people who love you and want you to host the Oscars.” While Hart told DeGeneres he would “assess” the suggestion, Deadline reports he is unlikely to change his mind, concerned about being a distraction and the lack of preparation time. Hosts for the Casting Society of America’s Artios Awards, held January 31 in LA, will be husband and wife hosts of podcast Why Did This Get Made?, June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie) and Paul Scheer (Veep). The Producers Guild announced the nominees for the 30th Annual PGA Awards. TV noms went to The Americans, Better Call Saul, The Handmaid’s Tale, Ozark and This Is Us for drama, and Atlanta, Barry, GLOW, The Good Place and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for comedy. Nominated in the miniseries category were The Assassination of Gianni Versace, Escape at Dannemora, Maniac, The Romanoffs and Sharp Objects. Up for TV movie are Farenheit 451, King Lear, My Dinner with Hervé, Paterno and Sense8: Together Until the End. Ceremony takes place January 19. NEW AND RETURNING SERIES The Circus is back on Showtime for season four starting Sunday, January 27, at 8p. Once again, John Heilemann, Mark McKinnon and Alex Wagner will have plenty to mine, including the shifting power dynamics on Capitol Hill and the White House’s mounting legal entanglements heading into 2020. Season five of ID’s Your Worst Nightmare premieres Friday, January 11, at 9p. True crime series uses classic film techniques to bring bad dreams to life. Cartel Crew, following the descendants of Cartel leaders, debuts tonight, January 7, at 9p on VH1. Big Fish Chief Creative Officer and series’ Executive Producer, Lucilla D’Agostino, tells Cynopsis that exploring the Cartel through the eyes of some of its most key players’ children provides “rarefied perspective and access to this world, and its aftermath. We think viewers will find the cast’s journeys to forge their own paths and come out of their infamous parents’ shadows both brutally honest and, at times, surprisingly relatable.” DIGITAL DATA In an open letter to its “future neighbors” in Long Island City, where it is housing its second corporate headquarters, Amazon offered details on an investment that has drawn fire from activists concerned about strain on the infrastructure and benefits to low-income residents. In addition to tens of thousands of diverse jobs, Amazon promised $27 billion in tax revenue and real estate donated to build a new public school. |
