Good morning, and welcome to the May 18 edition of the Saints Insider newsletter. Here's hoping your weekend results in a W. Take your pickShout-out to columnist Rod Walker had a great idea for our latest podcast: Our host, Zach Ewing, would announce a game on the Saints schedule, and the rest of the Saints Insider crew would hold up a "W" or an "L" sign. It was a fun exercise, and it made sure none of us were swayed by another's argument for a win or a loss. I was somewhat surprised when we finished the schedule and I had the Saints with a 9-8 record, which feels ... a little optimistic? You can check it out the episode here, and while you're there, do me a favor and like and subscribe to our channel. We'll be pumping out plenty of podcasts this summer as the Saints ramp up toward the start of the regular season. The biggest gameIf I'm circling any game on the Saints schedule, it's not one against a bitter division rival or one against a premier NFL franchise with a future Hall of Fame quarterback. It's the Week 7 game against what might be a bad Denver Broncos team. The reason should be obvious. As columnist Jeff Duncan notes, Sean Payton's return to the Superdome will be "must-see TV" — and that's why it's slated for a prime time audience. Programming noteThe Saints will return to the practice field next week, and this time with more of the players you can expect to see on the field this season. It's the first of three OTAs (or organized team activities). We'll be on the lookout for who is and isn't there at the voluntary practices, and hopefully we'll start to get a better idea about some of the bigger questions the team is facing this year. Y'all have a great weekend, and we'll see you next week. Cheers, Luke Johnson |
