The Super Bowl Prank: Esquire just published the story of the "Epic Super Bowl prank," staged fifteen years ago by Bitcoin Market Journal publisher John Hargrave and a merry brand of pranksters. Read the outrageous story here.

All the Crypto Super Bowl Commercials: They were calling it the "Crypto Bowl": early buzz was that crypto ads would dominate the Super Bowl. Far from being cringey, they were among the funniest and most creative spots during the big game.

If you weren't able to sit through three and a half hours of football, here are all the Super Bowl ads in three minutes:

Coinbase's Super Bowl ad was a colorful QR code bouncing around the screen, like a 1990's DVD screen saver. Scanning the QR code on your phone took you to a signup page to get $15 in free bitcoin, and enter a sweepstakes for $3 million. Watch it here.

FTX's Super Bowl ad featured Larry David of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" fame shooting down every good idea in history -- including crypto. Watch it here.

Budweiser's Super Bowl ad for Bud Light NEXT came with an NFT drop. Watch it here.

eToro's Super Bowl ad shows humanity turning into a borg-like creature that can also create emojis. Watch it here.

Hi Everyone,

There are few, if any, events that are more loud, more extravagant, or more mainstream than the Super Bowl, and this year's 56th annual game was no different.

Even though there were no bored ape sightings during the halftime show, as some had speculated there would be, given the all hip-hop group of performers, most of which are deep into crypto, the presence of the crypto industry was overwhelming as it made its fabulous debut into limelight TV advertising.

For the many of you who have asked me over the years "when crypto will finally be mainstream?" we've reached that moment now.

Of the half dozen or so crypto-related ads, the FTX clip featuring a very skeptical Larry David even made this year's top 10 Super Bowl commercials by internet tastemakers, and rightly so.

Then there was a Coinbase ad that was just a floating QR code with no explanation. It drove so much traffic that it crashed Coinbase's website, a fairly typical user experience that I'm not sure they were aiming to highlight.

Perhaps the biggest evidence of Web 3.0 at the big game was from the Super Bowl ad space veteran Budweiser, who dropped a technology themed NFT series.

The 12,722 items may be sold out, but with a floor price of just 0.06 ETH on OpenSea, they're certainly not unobtainable. I just got one for myself. Don't ask me why.

Miller & Meta

Another Super Bowl ad space veteran beer maker making moves into the metaverse is Miller Lite, who actually built a bar in the metaverse instead of paying for a flashy expensive ad spot.

Anyone with an account at Decentraland can now go and find 17 interactive things to do and collect their POAPs at this link.

To be honest though, Decentraland isn't an incredibly fun video game. Here's a screenshot from the bar's selfie corner that I posted on Twitter this morning for fewer than 20 likes. ...

So this is what things have come to. The global pandemic has killed our inclination to go out and have actual human interaction, so big brands are now swooping in to help us recreate these experiences online. It truly is a boring dystopia.

Ironically, this is the exact same feeling that Meta managed to illicit with their Oculus ad. I really felt for that poor puppy, whose band presumably broke up due to strenuous COVID-19 lockdowns.

I nearly cried when his head was getting crushed by that trash compactor, and after two years of sparsely leaving the house, I really empathized with the poor pooch.

The only difference is I don't remember the Oculus being the solution to any of that. It mostly sits on the shelf these days...poor VR machine.

Shoot, it's the 14th!!

We want to wish all of our readers a very happy Valentine's Day.
