How has 10 years of our mission-based funding transformed the UK lung cancer research ecosystem? |
| Back in 2014, our research strategy highlighted lung cancer as a priority. Despite it being the most common cause of cancer death, the amount of lung cancer-specific research was not proportionate to the scale of the issue and investment had stagnated. Since then, we’ve established the Lung Cancer Centre of Excellence at the University of Manchester and University College London (refunded last year with support from ScottishPower). We've also convened international researchers via our Lung Cancer Conferences and funded globally leading research programmes such as TRACERx. Writing in Cancer News, our policy ream reflects on what’s been achieved in the last 10 years.

Save your seat at the Cancer Grand Challenges Conference: extrachromosomal DNA |
| Registration is now open for the first edition of the Cancer Grand Challenges conference series held on 11 June 2025 in London. You will hear from a stellar line-up of researchers such as Paul Mischel, Howard Chang, Mariam Jamal-Hanjani, James Chen and Yardena Samuels as they discuss ecDNA: emerging concepts, open questions as well as what's needed to answer them and the future of this exciting field. The conference sessions will cover basic mechanisms of ecDNA formation, maintenance and function as well as its impact in cancer initiation, progression, evolution, detection and treatment. The sessions will also explore novel technologies to generate, manipulate and study ecDNAs, along with targeting ecDNAs in cancer: novel therapeutics and the role of the immune system. |
